Written by Annukampa Harsh and Shaan Vyas, Natkhat is a short film that has an authentic and distinctive approach towards the problems rooted in our society where the thoughts stay patriarchy driven. The writers share the dream and objective of writing Natkhat and how they aim at spreading a strong message where Natkhat is for every parent and teacher.

The writer Shaan Vyas shares, "When Annukampa and I started writing, our objective and dream was to get the film was to every adult in a caregiving position: parent, teacher, etc. Along the way, we were joined in this quest by our wonderful producers, cast, and crew. Toxic masculinity and biases start to creep into a child's consciousness very easily in our social environment."

Adding more about the life lessons, Vyas adds, "And just like we practice mindfulness in our lives, we feel that adults need to practice that mindfulness in raising our future generation as well. The film doesn't claim to provide a concrete solution, but even if it manages to get people watching it to check and question their own behaviors and entitlement, it will be a small victory for us."

Ending it on how powerfully one person can make a difference, Shaan expresses, "Even if 1 in 10 parents take preventive action at the right time, that's 10% of our future generation raised to be responsible adults."

Truly, the film has gone under an intensive and thought-provoking process and is the first step towards change in the society which would come only if the child's belief system is reshaped. The film also shares an impactful message of how the issue of women abuse stems from a patriarchal driven society and how the highly prevalent issues of domestic violence can be dealt with.

The film stars Vidya Balan as a mother educating her young son about gender equality and stars child actress Sanika Patel as the young son. It premiered on YouTube as part of the We Are One: A Global Film Festival on the 2nd of June 2020.

The film has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Vidya Balan. The short film is written with Sanaya Irani Zohrabi as the associate producer. The film is directed by Shaan Vyas.
