'Rustom' is a crime thriller film written by Vipul K Rawal and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai. It stars Akshay Kumar, Ileana D'Cruz, Arjan Bajwa, and Esha Gupta in lead roles. The film is loosely based on the K. M. Nanavati v. State of Maharashtra court case and narrates the story of a naval officer whose wife has an extramarital affair with a businessman. The film emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2016 and Akshay Kumar received the 64th National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance as Rustom Pavri.

An interesting side note : Rustom is not the first film that is being made on the infamous case. In 1963,Yeh Rastey Hain Pyar Ke, starring Sunil Dutt, was loosely based on the events of this case. The 1973 film, Achanak, starring Vinod Khanna and directed by Gulzar was also inspired by this case.
