But in the heap of dust, many have forgotten a hero who was along with Gunjan Saxena and served the nation in the 1999 War. Her name is Sree Vidya Rajan, the retired Flight Lieutenant officer who is currently residing in Kerala has finally spoken about the film.
In an interview with 'The Print' Rajan said, she watched the movie on Sunday evening and was shocked by the `twisting of facts` by the filmmakers. Rajan was so peeved that she also took to Facebook to detail her anguish and set the record straight.
According to her Facebook post, `Both of us were posted to Udhampur in 1996 but in the movie, it was shown that she was the only lady pilot posted at the unit. Since the two of us were the first lady pilots to be posted to that helicopter unit, we were skeptical about our acceptance in the male-dominated niche area of flying.`
On gender discrimination in Indian Air Force, the retired pilot officer said, "The woman pilots never faced any humiliating demonstrations of physical strength, as shown in the movie, nor were they ill-treated or humiliated by male officers."
As per the 'Lallantop' news report, A retired wing commander Namrita Chandi expressed her anger towards the Gunjan Saxena's filmmaker for defaming the Indian Air Force reputation and spreading misinformation about the first female pilot who went on the Kargil War. She said the first lady who went on the Kargil war is Sree Vidya Rajan although I know that she will not be going to disclose it publicly."
Twenty years ago, Gunjan Saxena and Sree Vidya Rajan were the first women combat aviators who went on the Kargil war zone but sadly never got an opportunity to fly fighter jets, but they did inspire others like them who wanted to fight for their country.
