Bollywood urges the Government of India to unlock cinemas and save jobs!

The worldwide lockdown following the novel coronavirus has adversely affected the entertainment industry as the cinema halls are closed since March 2020. The closure of big screens has incurred losses not only to the distributors but to those technicians and wage workers who were involved in the division of film distribution.

The Multiplex Association of India recently released a statement requesting the Government Of India to unlock cinemas as jobs are at stake. Highlighting the urgent matter, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actor Manoj Bajpayee and movie critic Taran Adarsh took to social media to urge authorities for the re-open of cinemas. #UnlockCinemaSaveJobs was trending on social media along with 'Dreams come to life at movies on the big screen... There are millions behind the screen who make that happen... Jobs are at stake... Can't wait for cinemas to reopen.' Here is the official statement of the Multiplex Association of India -


Other Bollywood celebs also made noise about the matter as they also shared the statement on social media.

Rumors are doing the round that the cinemas will reopen on the occasion of Diwali. However, some are of the viewpoints that cinemas will be re-open at the end of October. Many countries including the USA, UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany , Japan, Russi, Canada, Singapore, and UAE have opened cinemas with all necessary precautions but India is still not clear about it.
