Whether it was Judwa, Don, Agneepath, or remakes of South cinema, it has been proved that one of the biggest Bollywood formulas in the recent past is remaking the old gold films. Amitabh Bachchan's hits films such as Don, Agneepath, Sholay were remade in the 20's era but unfortunately, his 'Satte Pe Satta' is already shelved due to some reason. Now, his cult-classic hit Namak Halaal is added to the remake list. Producer Murad Khetani who produced Shahid Kapoor starrer 'Kabir Singh' which was the remake of the Telugu film Arjun Reddy has now acquired the remake rights of Big B's film.

Talking about the remake, Murad Khetani told to a leading entertainment portal, "When we contacted Murad Khetani, he confirmed the news and shares, "Yes, I have bought the rights to remake Amitabh Bachchan-Shashi Kapoor-Smita Patil-Parveen Babi starrer Namak Halal. It's a film that has been loved across generations and by people of all ages. We are working on the script at this point. We haven't approached any actor or director for the film as of now. We will work on the casting once we lock the script completely."

With the announcement, it was speculated that David Dhawan will direct the film, casting his son Varun Dhawan in the lead role but Varun slammed the reports and shared a link to an article claiming that the father-son duo was working on a remake, and wrote, "Guys u can write how many ever make belief stories about me but don't make up things about my dad. This is a completely fabricated story ... will see u (on) Christmas to make u laugh." Check out his tweet here -

Original Namak Halaal story revolves around Arjun (Big B), a youngster, who works at a hotel owned by Raja (Shashi Kapoor) and serves him faithfully. However, when he learns about a plot to kill Raja, he decides to save him from harm at any cost.

Directed by Prakash Mehra and written by Kader Khan, Namak Halaal featured Amitabh Bachchan, Smita Patil, Shashi Kapoor, Parveen Babi, Waheeda Rehman, Om Prakash, Ranjeet, Satyen Kappu, Suresh Oberoi and Ram Sethi in the pivotal roles. The film was the biggest comedy blockbuster of all time and went on to be the third highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
