In June this year, singer-composer Oye Kunaal and comedian-host Balraj Syal were disturbed with people's comments on not getting the food of their choice during the countrywide-lockdown. They felt that people were not grateful for what they had during this pandemic. This was what inspired them to make a song. `Balraj Syal and I were playing PUBG and we got talking. At that time the country-wide lockdown was underway and People were saying stuff like Shahi paneer is cooked at home but they feel like eating chicken. But there were people who were not even getting food at that time. Balraj said no one is grateful. He, then, told me a particular line and I got inspired. We started making the song and it came out great in the first attempt. This was how we made Shukar Kar,` says Kunaal, who is known for his numbers such as Hanjua Di Tha and Patola.
Actor Sonu Sood was also much in news at that time as he was helping migrant workers go back home and Kunaal and Balraj decided to make the song as a tribute to him. `When we made people hear the song, they loved it. We sent it to Sonu Sood and made it as a tribute to him because not many people can do what he did. It was such a nice push to my career as well,` he says.
