Smilie Suri may be well known for her sensitive portrayals in movies, but few are aware that the girl is an amazing dancer too! Smilie has learnt almost every major form of dance, right from kathak to flamenco!

Talking about her hitherto hidden pet-passion, Smilie says, "I have been dancing since the age of three. I almost begun talking and dancing around the same time (laughs).

I started my formal training in dance, which is such a pertinent part of my life, by learning kathak, a dance-form that remains closest to my heart. That started off my eternal love-affair with dance and I started getting curious to learn other kinds of dance as well," says Smilie.

Smilie's thirst for knowledge led her to gurus like Shiamak Davar and Sandip Soparrkar from whom she learnt the nuances of western dances such as flamenco, salsa, samba and many others.

Did you know that the actress has been waiting for that one role that will showcase her dancing prowess? "I want to get to do something like Madhuri Dixit in ‘Devdas' or ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hain'. I'm very keen on exhibiting my dance-talent son the big-screen," says Smilie dreamily.

Well, she might not be having any such film in hand just now (though, if things go the right way, she just might be onto fulfilling her dreams, considering that she has been offered two such roles), the actress is on cloud nine for having got a chance to showcase her talents at the International Dance Festival recently. Smilie performed the meringue (a personal favourite of hers) and the samba at this festival.

"I love Latin dance-forms for its sheer variation and geometric precision. But all the same, they are so fun giving. Like, while the meringue is a slow form, samba is a vivacious, celebratory dance while, salsa is a classy one! I love performing to all these dance-forms," gushes Smilie.

"I'm so happy to have got to perform at the dance festival; not only because it was a prestigious fest, but because it gave me an opportunity to showcase my dancing skills to people in the industry. It's high time the industry sees me dancing and offers me roles that will showcase my talent," says Smilie, who is looking forward to the release of N. Chandra's ‘Breaking News'.

"In the movie, I play a Maharashtrian girl, working in a call center, which has been taken to Cannes where it has received glowing reviews. I have high hopes form this project," admits Smilie, adding, "But now I'm looking for more glamorous kind of roles.

After ‘Kalyug', I have been slotted as the sugary-sweet heroine; I want to break that image and do some hatke, sassy roles now". - Reshma S Kulkarni
