According to the sources, "Disney+hotstar has locked Tigmanshu Dhulia to direct Vikas Swarup's mystery thriller novel, Six Suspects adaptation for the streaming giant. The series will go on the floor next year." The director has already helmed two successful series for the digital platform which include Criminal Justice and Out of Love.
More about the Six Suspects novel, then it revolves around a playboy son of the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Vivek rai aka 'Vicky' who murdered bartender Ruby Gill at a trendy restaurant in New Delhi, simply because she refused to serve him a drink. Well, the novel plot murder committed by Vicky Rai is similar to the Jessica Lal murder case in which the killer was Manu Sharma.
Moving forward to the novel plot, now Vicky Rai has been killed at the party he was throwing to celebrate his acquittal. The police recover six guests with guns in their possession, a corrupt bureaucrat who claims to have become Mahatma Gandhi, an American tourist infatuated with an Indian actress, a member of an ancient tribe on a quest to recover a sacred stone, a Bollywood sex symbol with a guilty secret, a mobile-phone thief who dreams big and an ambitious politician prepared to stoop low. All in all, Swarup unravels the lives and motives of the six suspects in the novel.
Six Suspects by Vikas Swarup is quite intriguing and well-written just like his earlier novels, so getting its adaptation is a great decision by the digital platform. Although, in 2013, BBC was supposed to make a film on the novel casting Amitabh Bachchan in the key role unfortunately the project never went on the floors.
For now, Tigmanshu Dhulia is still busy directing other series for the SonyLiv streaming service and will work on Six Suspects adaptation soon.
