As she tries her hand at comedy, Urvashi Dholakia, one of Indian television's most famous vamps, says 'saas-bahu' soap operas are only meant for entertainment and not for real life emulation.

"It is high time viewers understood that 'saas-bahu' sagas are fictional. These are only meant to entertain and must not be followed in real life," Urvashi told.

Urvashi started her small-screen career at the tender age of six with the TV serial "Waqt Ki Raftar" and is widely known for playing the negative character Kamolika in the daily soap "Kasautii Zindagii Kay".

Urvashi is now set to tickle the funny bones of audiences in a comedy reality show "Comedy Circus".

In the show, seven popular actors from Indian TV, including Urvashi, will team up with well-known stand-up comedians. The unusual pairs will compete for the top position over a period of 13 weeks.

Every week, judges and studio audiences will nominate the two weakest pairs and eliminate them until the announcement of the ultimate pair.

"Comedy is not about acting, it is all about timing, and either you have it or you don't. Somehow people around me think that I have perfect timing.

"Moreover, I have been a home-breaker and made viewers cry through my act. Now I have got a chance to make people laugh," she said.

She also admits that working with stand-up comedians will be a learning experience as it will be completely different and much more difficult than what she has done so far.

Commenting on how the television industry has matured with time, she said: "Undoubtedly it has evolved. But it is still trying to find its feet. It has enormous potential and it is going to grow immensely with time.

"Today's audience is intelligent and open to changes. However, it is uncertain about what it wants to see on television," she added.

The uncertainty of the audience has made actors extremely cautious while picking up projects.

"These days actors don't exactly know what the audience will accept. Therefore they have to be careful while taking up the right project. I am choosy because I don't want to make any wrong move."

Though Urvashi herself took very little interest in studies, she would certainly like her children to concentrate on academics.

"Academics, eeks! If I had been interested in studies, would I have taken up an acting career?" she asked. "I have never believed in 'book study'. However I am a strict mom and want my two sons to go for higher studies. I know its significance can never be undermined."

She has always liked applying make-up, and loves experimenting with her looks.

"I am open to changes and love experimenting with my looks. Since childhood I have loved applying make-up and want to always look good."
