The narrative and lines in romantic comedies must be extremely carefully chosen by the filmmakers. And in Devanshu Singh's rom-com, '14 Phere,' you'll find a well-balanced mix of humour and romance, as well as a lot of pleasure. Even though the film's idea is rather standard, the filmmakers manage to hold the audience's attention throughout.
The film begins with the theatre scene of Sanjay (Vikrant Massey), who belongs to a Rajput conservative family and has an interest in acting. In reality, he works for a multinational corporation, where his lady, Aditi (Kriti Kharbanda), is his senior. Both had been together and deeply in love since college, but how could a love tale be flawless without flaws? In this one, it's their family who comes from various castes. Despite this, they continue to live together in Delhi, unaware of the impending catastrophe.
The story picks up when Sanjay's family calls him to come to the house right away to tell him that his sister has eloped with her inter-caste partner. Apart from that, the actual reason for phoning him is because of his marriage. Sanjay is urged by Aditi to take a transfer to America so that they may live in peace, but he does not want to leave his mother alone. Now the situation is like they can't run away & they can't even tell their parents about the affair. But, what he and his woman do in this scenario is a surprise for you. But anything they do will undoubtedly make you laugh. Besides humour, the film has a powerful message about society's conventional thinking & honour killing.
Indeed, at some points, you may feel confused such as nobody knows that they work in the same office but still her dialogues simply stated that. So, there must have been some clarity in such things. Otherwise, if talking about the overall plot, then it's good in terms of entertainment. At every moment, you'll feel like Oh! what will happen now! So, it will keep you engaged with the plot.
The screenplay is mediocre, since you may not get a true sense of the cities of Bihar and Jaipur, which might have enthralled the audience with a sense of realism. The acting of Vikrant Massey and Kriti Kharbanda, on the other hand, is just amazing. Whether it's his aggressive or romantic part, Massey has just won the stage. Apart from them, even every actor, whether it be Sanjay and Aditi's parents or their office staff, has done an outstanding job, particularly Gauahar Khan, who plays Sanjay's theatre partner.
If we talk about music, then it's quite okay as the songs are not that catchy. But yes, you'll not get bored in the whole movie. At some moments, you might feel that the story is predictable, but still, the actors manage to sail the boat with their expressions.
Overall, if you want a family drama with decent comedy and a positive message, this film is worth watching. It also has a touch of a few Punjabi comic films, particularly at the end. Hence, it can be your perfect weekend plan if you have nothing to do.
