At the New York premiere of Michael Winterbottom's A Mighty Heart Irrfan Khan's performance came in for fulsome praise.
Speaking from New York Irrfan said, "I guess American audiences got two chances to see me within a few months. In very contrasting films and roles. Both The Namesake and A Mighty Heart are about strong suddenly-widowed women, except that Tabu was grieving for my loss, Anglina isn't," laughs Irrfan.
He sobers down. "It's really not important to walk the red carpet with the stars in Cannes or New York. What's important in this case are the issues that are addressed. Global terrorism and individual loss are subjects that effect all of us."
With two international triumphs in a row Irrfan Khan is hoping to crack the West. "But I'm not holding my breath for it. I'm happy just being an important part of films that matter beyond entertainmemt."
