‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' might not have got rave reviews but music director trio Shankar Ehsaan and Loy are pretty satisfied with the music they composed for the film. And understandably so, since the music does somehow manage to spice up many dull moments in the film.

Q. The theme and mood of the music of JBJ is quite different.
A-Yes, the album has a strong Sufi /Punjabi sound blended in with a lot of rock and ethnic influences.

Q- Comment on the tracks. If you were to review your album yourself, what would you say?
A- All three Jhoom tracks rock. I like the idea of using a similar refrain in all the three, yet all songs sound different. ‘Kiss of love' is for the dance floor and Vishal has sung the song with a lot of energy. ‘Halke Halke' is melodically rich and has a strong Indian melody based on the ‘Bhim Palssi' scale.

Rahat Fateh adds a Sufi touch with his voice and Mahalakshmi delivers the song in her silky and very melodic voice. ‘Ticket to Hollywood' is like a song composed for a musical ( like a play ), it is situation based and has a funky hip hop Punjabi feel to it with a very different funky sounding groove.

Niraj 's voice gives it that different texture that the song requires. ‘Jhoom Jam' is the three of us (Shankar Ehsaan Loy) partying in the studio on the last day of recording!

Q- Tell us something about the experience of composing for Yash Raj... Some feel that with this album, you defy the Chopra clan conventions...
A-Yash Raj Films is undoubtedly a wonderful production company to work for and Yash Raj studios are an extremely creative environment to work in. Aditya Chopra has this amazing ability to zero in on the kind of song that would be popular.

He and Shaad Ali really pushed us as they did during ‘Bunty aur Babli' to create the music of ‘Jhoom'. Well I don't think there is anything called a Chopra clan convention. If a particular kind of music works with the film they will go with it.

Q- Also there is a little bit of trance music, some hip-hop and in places totally Indian notes. How did you decide on what sounds to include in what tracks?
A-We experiment a lot in the studio and bring our influences to the music. We have varied influences and we listen to many different kinds of music, hence we experiment a lot.

Q. How was it working with Shaad Ali after ‘Bunty aur Babli'?
A-Shaad is a friend and we have a lot of fun working together and the experience is up lifting.

Q- And your upcoming projects?
A-‘Hey Baby', ‘Taaren Zameen Par', a new film with Kunal Kohli, ‘Johnny Gaddar', ‘Short Cut', Amol Palekar's ‘Dum Kutta' and a new film with Nikhil Advani.
