Filmmaker Kiran Rao's comedy-drama Laapataa Ladies has officially been chosen as India's entry for the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars 2025. The Film Federation of India (FFI) made the announcement, selecting this heartfelt film to represent the country on the world's biggest cinematic stage. The Oscars are set to take place in March 2025, where Laapataa Ladies will compete for the prestigious Best International Feature Film Award.

Laapataa Ladies faced stiff competition, contending with 29 other films for this coveted spot. Some of the top contenders included Animal, Kill, Kalki 2898 AD, Srikanth, Chandu Champion, Joram, Maidaan, Sam Bahadur, Article 370, and the National Award-winning Malayalam film Aattam. Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light, which also won accolades at the Cannes Film Festival, was another strong contender.

However, after careful deliberation, a 13-member jury led by renowned Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua selected Laapataa Ladies for its unique narrative and heartwarming storytelling. The film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam, and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles.
