Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh recently shared his vision for a festival in India that could surpass the grandeur of Coachella, thanks to the country's unparalleled cultural richness. The conversation unfolded during an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed a keen interest in the idea and shared his own aspirations for India as a global creative hub.

Diljit Dosanjh's Vision for India's Cultural Showcase

During their discussion, PM Modi inquired about Diljit's experiences at major international music festivals, probing into the languages, styles, and emotions involved.

Diljit responded passionately, saying, 'Sir, I feel they have made festivals like Coachella big. But we can create something even bigger. People travel from all over the world for such events.'

Highlighting the depth of India's artistic heritage, he added, 'We have such a rich culture. Imagine sitting at a dhaba, hearing someone sing in Rajasthani. The song's melody is so powerful that I think, 'I should stop singing.' And I am a professional singer! This person isn't even a professional, yet their talent is incredible. If we harness this artistry, people from all over the world will come.'

PM Modi's Vision for India as a Creative Powerhouse

Responding to Diljit's insights, PM Modi revealed a longstanding vision he has been nurturing. 'I have been thinking for many years, and now I am implementing it,' he said, referring to a movement called WAVES. 'India is a big country, and we produce the most films in the world. We have the largest creative industry. My goal is to unite the world's creative community under this movement.'

PM Modi's ambition is to establish India as the center of the global creative world. He recounted a conversation with former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, where he shared insights into India's diverse musical traditions.

'She asked me about music, and I explained that in India, we have music for every time of day and every emotion. There's music for sunrise, music for joy, and music for sorrow. She was fascinated by this diversity,' he recalled.

A Cultural Revolution on the Horizon

With creative minds like Diljit Dosanjh and visionary leaders like PM Modi, India's potential to host a global cultural festival seems closer than ever. Such an event could not only celebrate the country's rich artistic traditions but also position India as a leader in the global cultural and creative industries.

As WAVES gathers momentum, the dream of a festival that rivals or surpasses Coachella might soon become a reality, bringing the world's attention to India's boundless artistic treasures.
