The trio recently featured in the latest episode of In The Ring with Filmfare, which is now available for streaming on Filmfare’s YouTube channel. Hosted by Jitesh Pillai, Editor-in-Chief, Filmfare, this engaging talk show offers fans an exclusive glimpse into the lives and careers of some of the most sought-after talents in the film and OTT industries, all set against the backdrop of a live audience that heightens the immersive experience.

Known for his acclaimed and impactful films like Kedarnath and Rock On! Abhishek Kapoor is celebrated for his ambitious storytelling and ability to push the boundaries of Indian cinema. Joining him in Azaad are promising newcomers Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani bringing a vibrant energy to the screen, impressing audiences. In the interview, the director and actors dived into a range of thought-provoking topics, offering insights on nepotism in Bollywood, work experience with the director while shooting Azaad, navigating the complexities of box office success, and even touching upon their love lives.

Discussing the hugely cultured topic of Nepotism in Bollywood, Aaman shared his view, "I think people misunderstand the concept of nepotism. Since we were toddlers, we’ve been surrounded by films—the sound of cameras, the environment of moviemaking. When we start working, it’s easy to label it as nepotism. Yes, opportunities might come easier, but talent is what takes you forward. Without talent, you can’t survive." Rasha further emphasized, "The audience is everything. They know what they like and what they don’t. Everyone deserves a chance to work, no matter where they come from. What truly matters is hard work."

Reflecting on their dynamic, Rasha shared her admiration, saying, "I like that he’s very humble and energetic. He can make everyone laugh, and he genuinely cares about people." Recalling their first meeting, she shared a vivid memory that perfectly captured their contrasting personalities, "I first met him in a workshop. I came straight from school, still in my uniform, and I had that 'first girl' attitude. I was taking notes very seriously. He, on the other hand, showed up in black jeans, with an 'I don’t care' attitude, not taking any notes. I thought he was the typical backbencher type."

Opening up about matters of love life, Rasha gets candid about Aaman’s love life, "I know everything about his love life—his crushes, his relationships. I even know who he's going to marry!” Responding to the same Aaman said, "I really don’t have love in my life. She thinks she knows everything, but she doesn’t. And yes, I’m well aware of her love life too."

Rasha revealed the invaluable insight and stories she gathered from her mother Raveena Tandon, "She used to tell me their shooting stories and experience with Ajay sir, Govinda sir, and so on. She told me about shooting back-to-back, and her iconic songs like ‘Akhiyon Se Goli Maare’. They didn’t have vanity vans, just a single corner to rest. They’d rush from one set to another, sometimes shooting three films a day without sleep."

Speaking about his lessons from Ajay Devgn, Aaman recounted, "My uncle told me about how they used to shoot from 6 a.m. to midnight, then continue from midnight to 6 a.m. The effort they put in during their 30s laid the foundation for their later success. It was a tough life. I also get surprised by how Kajol always is so happy peppy and joyful. She often says this life is a one-time gift, no one knows what happens next. So be lively, joyful always”.

On navigating the world of box office numbers and staying true to his craft, Abhishek Kapoor commented, "I’ve learned to deal with box office results. My focus is on making good films, not just chasing numbers. For instance, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui was an important film for society. While money is necessary, so are aspirations and inspiration. My wife is my stabilizing factor—she supports me a lot. Today, people aren’t even allowed to dream freely."

Kapoor gets candid about his personal journey and growth, embracing evolution in both his life and career. He said, "I’m evolving as a person," he shared. "It’s not about my wife producing films lately. My projects are always ambitious. I never want to compromise. For example, when I was making Kedarnath, nobody believed in it. When it worked, I felt a sense of relief and security. I feel azaad after making Azaad."

In preparation for Azaad, Rasha delved deep into the process. She explained, "We watched a lot of films to take lessons. I rewatched Mother India from a completely new perspective and picked up valuable insights." Aaman additionally added, "We also went through workshops, dialect classes, and even horse training sessions. This preparation ensured our director wouldn’t feel extra pressure during the shoot."

The actors opened up about their work experience with the Director, unveiling, "At first, I was nervous and lost. But with Abhishek sir’s help, I learned something new every day. Even when I was unwell during a horse shoot, he was patient and supportive. He made it all possible." In line with the same Aaman shared, “Everyday was an experience on set. I had a fever, and stomach upset, and I had the shoot with a horse. Sir helped me to make the shoot happen, he never used to lose his temperament rather he always helped.”
