The hit director-actor jodi of David Dhawan and Govinda is back together after a gap of four years with Partner,
also starring Salman Khan. Their last release together was Ek Aur Ek Gyraah in 2003.
And the
director is excited to be working with "the best actor around" once again. The long gap, he couldn't help.
"Govinda had turned to politics," reasoned Dhawan.
Dhawan revealed that he was enraptured by the actor's comic timing in Coolie No.1. It has been 20 years now
that the two have been working with each other, on and off. "Partner is my 17th film with him," the director
points out, adding "It is not me who professes that our working chemistry rocks, it is the people who say so."
He goes on to state that even Salman learnt comedy from Govinda.
Talking about today's comedy films, Dhawan says: "Nowadays, films are mainly copied. Seeing the success
of my comedy films, sab chalti gadi mein chadna chahte hai (everybody wants to take advantage). Making a
comedy film is not an easy job, "First, you have to be convinced of what you are making. Only then will the
public be convinced".
Labelling Partner "the hottest film" he has ever made, Dhawan continues: "If I do not make films for the youth, I
will not survive. My children have grown up and I learn a lot from them. Time has changed and now people do
not like loud and crude comedy. They prefer sophisticated and sensible comedy."
If Partner works out well at the box-office, Dhawan has plans on more projects with Salman and Govinda,
together. The promos of Partner are looking good and going by them, the trio will surely be back together
again. -Mili Swarnakar
