ZEE5 has officially announced its latest original project, “Costao,” with acclaimed actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role. Directed by Sejal Shah, the high-stakes crime thriller is based on the life of real-life customs officer Costao Fernandes, who dared to go head-to-head with Goa’s most notorious smuggler in the 1990s.

A Story of Integrity and Sacrifice

Set against the vibrant yet dangerous backdrop of Goa’s smuggling underworld, Costao chronicles the journey of a principled man who risked everything to uphold justice. The film dives deep into Fernandes’ daring solo mission that disrupted the largest gold smuggling attempt into India — a feat that earned him both enemies and admiration. The narrative promises razor-sharp action, emotional depth, and a gripping portrayal of what it really means to stand your ground.

In its announcement, ZEE5 aptly described the character: “A hero with no cape – just a white uniform, unshakable courage, and the will to stand for what is right.”

Cast and Crew

Alongside Nawazuddin, the film also stars Priya Bapat in a key role. The project is backed by Vinod Bhanushali, in association with Bhanushali Studios Limited and Bombay Fables Motion Pictures. The production team also includes Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui.
