Back in the Spotlight with ‘Odela 2’
While Tamannaah may have taken a moment to relax, her professional calendar remains packed. She recently appeared in the supernatural thriller ‘Odela 2’, directed by Ashok Teja. The film, which released on April 17, is the sequel to the original hit ‘Odela’, and Tamannaah’s role in the film has sparked much buzz for its intensity and transformation.
Portraying a Powerful Naga Sadhu
In ‘Odela 2’, Tamannaah steps into an unconventional and spiritually charged role as a Naga sadhu—a mystic figure known for asceticism and enigmatic energy. This role demanded not just acting finesse but a complete transformation, both physically and mentally.
Sampath Nandi, the creator of the franchise, shared behind-the-scenes details about her character’s preparation: “Tamannaah plays a Naga sadhu, a character with mysterious energy. First, we tried three looks. Tamannaah is very fair, and Naga saints are known to spend long hours under the sun, giving them a naturally tanned complexion. No matter how many makeup trials we did, it didn’t look realistic.”
Achieving the Look—No Makeup, Full Dedication
Tamannaah’s fair skin posed a challenge when trying to authentically portray a weathered spiritual ascetic. Nandi revealed that her skin would turn pink under the sun, which added complexity to their makeup attempts. Ultimately, the team decided to pursue a makeup-free look, relying on costume and character immersion to build authenticity.
Designer Neeta Lulla, known for her excellence in period and ethnic costume design, took charge of Tamannaah’s wardrobe. Drawing from numerous references and carefully crafted concepts, Lulla and her team developed the distinct costume that helped complete Tamannaah’s transformation.
“We sent all the costume references to Neeta Lulla. She came back with a couple of finalized designs. It took a lot of time and effort, but we finally achieved the look you see on screen,” Nandi explained.
A Spiritual and Physical Transformation
In addition to the physical makeover, Tamannaah made personal changes to immerse herself in the role. She adopted a completely vegetarian lifestyle and even walked barefoot during the shoot, aligning herself with the spiritual essence of her character.
“She became a complete vegetarian. I believe Tamannaah garu could embody this character so naturally because she was on a transitional journey herself. She performed the role effortlessly,” Nandi added.
Her dedication to the role has been widely praised, with fans and critics admiring her bold choice to take on a spiritually intense and transformative character.
