Renowned singer Rekha Bhardwaj lends her voice to Thaal, a folk-inspired song from the upcoming Hindi film His Story of Itihaas. Written and composed by the film’s director Manpreet Singh Dhami, the track uses the everyday act of sharing a meal to beautifully depict intimacy and quiet companionship. The film starring Subodh Bhave will be releasing theatrically on 30th May 2025.
Starring Subodh Bhave as a schoolteacher who begins to question conventional narratives of history, His Story of Itihaas weaves together personal and societal themes. The film encourages viewers to reflect on the stories we’re taught in our History books and the truths we accept.
Thaal, which plays during the film’s end credits, is a soothing, melodic composition that leaves audiences with a lingering sense of warmth and introspection. Speaking about collaborating with Rekha Bhardwaj, Manpreet Singh Dhami said, "Rekha ji brought profound emotion and depth to Thaal. She instinctively understood the spirit of the song and made it her own. Working with her was truly an honour.”
Rekha Bhardwaj shared, "Thaal is a song that touched me deeply the moment I heard it. It’s rooted in simplicity but carries a quiet emotional strength. Manpreet’s vision and the way it translates on screen- how he used the idea of sharing food to express connection and intimacy felt very special to me. I’m glad to be a part of a song that speaks so gently yet meaningfully about human bonds.”
The film also stars Akansha Pandey, Kisha Arora, Ankul Vikal, and Yogendra Tikku, and offers a fresh lens on themes of identity, truth, and the rewriting of history.
His Story of Itihaas is set to release in theatres on 30th May 2025.
