Bollywood megastar Salman Khan is stepping into one of the most challenging roles of his career with the upcoming war drama, "Battle of Galwan". Helmed by Apoorva Lakhia, known for his gritty storytelling in Shootout at Lokhandwala, the film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between India and China—a pivotal moment in modern Indian military history.

Speaking to PTI in a recent interview, the 59-year-old actor described the film as one of his most physically taxing experiences on set, pushing him beyond anything he’s done before.

“It is physically demanding. Every year, every day, it gets more difficult. I have to give more time now. Earlier, I could pull it off in a week or two, but now I’m running, kicking, punching—and this film demands that,” Khan shared candidly.

High-Altitude Action and Realistic War Scenes in Ladakh

A significant portion of Battle of Galwan is being shot in Ladakh, a location known for its breathtaking landscapes and extreme altitudes. The actor revealed that he will spend 20 days shooting in Ladakh, followed by 7–8 days filming in cold water, highlighting the grueling physicality of the project.

“When I signed the film, I thought the story was amazing. But it’s also a very, very difficult film to do,” he admitted. “Shooting in cold water and high altitudes—it’s tough.”

Unlike his previous action-oriented films such as Sikandar, where the stunts were more stylized, Battle of Galwan will feature realistic combat sequences, drawing from actual military events. This commitment to authenticity demands a higher level of preparation, stamina, and emotional depth.

Apoorwa Lakhia’s Vision for a National Epic

Director Apoorva Lakhia is known for delivering hard-hitting, emotionally charged narratives. With Battle of Galwan, he aims to bring the bravery of the Indian Army to the big screen in an immersive and respectful manner. Given the film’s subject matter, expectations are sky-high, with audiences anticipating a powerful tribute to Indian soldiers who fought in the Galwan clash.

The film promises a departure from commercial spectacle, leaning more towards raw emotion, patriotic realism, and action rooted in actual events.

Not an Eid Release—Salman Confirms a January 2026 Window

Breaking away from tradition, Battle of Galwan will not release on Eid, a date long associated with Salman Khan’s biggest blockbusters. Instead, the actor has confirmed that the film is targeting a January 2026 theatrical release, potentially aligning with Republic Day, further emphasizing the film’s nationalistic theme.

“Yes, January,” Salman responded when asked about the release date, putting months of speculation to rest.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 Also in Development

In a delightful surprise for fans, Salman Khan also confirmed that a sequel to the 2015 hit Bajrangi Bhaijaan is in the works. While the new film won’t be a direct continuation, it will carry the same emotional resonance and heartwarming storytelling that made the original a modern classic.

“I liked that movie. The sequel will have the same emotional beat, but it will be a different film,” he revealed.

The original Bajrangi Bhaijaan completes 10 years this week, and the sequel announcement has added to the celebrations for Salman’s fan base.

Off-Screen, Salman Promotes Safe Riding as ISRL Brand Ambassador

Away from the camera, Salman Khan continues his association with Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL) as its brand ambassador. A longtime fan of cycling and motorbikes, the actor spoke passionately about his love for riding.

“I’ve always been a rider—from cycles to motorbikes, I’ve loved them all. Though I don’t get to ride as often now,” he said at the ISRL Season 2 press event.

However, he also took the opportunity to urge fans to avoid racing on public roads, reinforcing the importance of safety and responsibility.

Conclusion: A New Chapter in Salman Khan’s Legacy

With Battle of Galwan, Salman Khan is venturing into uncharted territory—both thematically and physically. Taking on a role grounded in reality, national sacrifice, and brutal conditions, the actor is poised to deliver one of the most intense performances of his career.

Backed by Apoorva Lakhia’s raw direction and a compelling real-world narrative, the film is set to make a major impact. Alongside the highly anticipated Bajrangi Bhaijaan sequel and his continuing advocacy for motorsport safety, Salman Khan proves once again that reinvention and passion remain at the heart of his journey.
