Producer Sahil Seth, under the banner of CINEDUST 18 FILMS PVT. LTD., has announced his upcoming hard-hitting project titled Malegaon Files. My Friend Ganesha fame director Rajiv S Ruia has been brought on board to direct the film, which is based on the real-life 2008 Malegaon bomb blast, a cinematic journey based on true events — one of India’s most controversial and politically sensitive terror cases. The film will chronicle one of India’s most controversial and politically charged terror investigations — the Malegaon blast case.

The project is in its pre-production stage, with the cast and crew expected to be locked soon, according to the makers. The film aims to present a gripping and sensitive portrayal of the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts, which shook the nation and led to a long, complicated legal battle that exposed lapses in investigative agencies, alleged custodial torture, and raised questions about the fairness of justice.

Speaking about the film, director Rajiv S Ruia said, "This is not just a story about a blast — it’s about what followed. The human stories, the political shadow, the search for truth, and the emotional and legal turmoil faced by the accused and the victims’ families. 'Malegaon Files' is our attempt to bring that reality to the screen."

The 2008 Malegaon blast, which occurred on September 29th, tragically claimed six lives and injured over 100 individuals. Initially blamed on Islamist groups, the investigation took a dramatic turn when Hindu extremist elements were later implicated—leading to the arrest of several controversial figures including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit. The case became one of the first in India to be linked to the term "Hindutva terrorism. In the latest judgment in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, in which all seven accused were acquitted.

"Producer Sahil Seth added, "We are approaching this story with deep responsibility. The idea is not to sensationalize, but to initiate conversations and let people reflect on what happened — not just the blast, but everything that came with it."

The makers have stated that the script is being developed with inputs from investigative reports, court documents, and real testimonies, ensuring that the narrative remains grounded and respectful. While the film will dramatize certain aspects for cinematic impact, the creative team promises to retain authenticity and neutrality in its storytelling.

“Malegaon Files” joins the ranks of Indian cinema’s increasing focus on true crime and real political narratives, following the success of films that explore the intersection of politics, religion, and justice.

Sources close to the production have hinted at the involvement of several critically acclaimed actors known for their intense performances. The film is slated to go on floors by late 2025, with more details about the cast and shooting schedule expected to be revealed soon.
