Jaswinder Bhalla was born in Ludhiana, Punjab. His father, Master Bahadur Singh Bhalla, was a primary school teacher in Barmalipur village. From a young age, Bhalla developed a fascination for the performing arts, participating actively in school functions and radio shows. In 1975, he performed for All India Radio, which marked his early entry into public entertainment.

He pursued higher education at Punjab Agricultural University, obtaining a B.Sc and M.Sc, and later completed his Ph.D. at Chaudhary Charan Singh Post Graduate College, Meerut. Bhalla’s professional career began in academia, where he served as a professor and ultimately headed the Department of Extension Education at PAU until his retirement in 2020.

Bhalla's entry into the world of comedy was through college skits with his friend Bal Mukund Sharma. In 1988, they released the iconic audio cassette “Chhankata 88”, which became widely popular and laid the foundation for Bhalla's successful career in comedy.
