Partly shifting from the genre of his previous film "Bhoot", Ram Gopal Varma has tried out an unusual mix of romance and comedy with horror in his forthcoming "Darling".

Dismissing some of the rumours about the film doing the rounds, the acclaimed director tells us how films and human emotions cannot be categorized.

Q: How different is "Darling" from your previous movie "Bhoot"?
A: The genre of the film is different. It is a horror comedy that starts on a romantic-comic note and turns into a murder-mystery. The end of the movie is scary.

Q: Was the item song that Nisha Kothari is doing in this film supposed to be for some other project?
A: I am really not able to understand this issue over the item dance number. The song which is there in the movie was there in the script, so it's there. We never had plans of putting this number in some other movie. This item song gels well in this movie.

Q: The expressions on Fardeen's face in the promos of the film are quite similar to that of Urmila's in "Bhoot". Won't this be the same stuff for the audience?
A: The expressions can be similar, I don't deny that. Anyone who is scared will have the same kind of expression on his/her face. People know me as a director who is not hackneyed and tries out different stuff.

Now that doesn't mean that my films cannot be compared with other films. Everything has a difference. We cannot categorize films or human expressions under rigid categories.

Q: It's heard that Esha Deol has played a very intense character in the film and that the Tamil version has already been featured.
A: Yes, we have presented Esha in a very intense role. She is a very fine actor and her potential has not been aptly utilized as yet. All the talk about the Tamil version is pure rubbish. There is no such version of the movie.

Q: Are you planning a film with Bipasha Basu in the future?
A: Every movie goes through a change cycle. Between the period of conception and the time we finally start working on a project, it changes a lot. I respect Bipasha a lot. As, of now, I am not planning to work with Bipasha.

If ever in the future the need arises, and Bipasha fits into the character, we will surely work with her. 'If's and 'but's are there in every project, that we can't help.

Q: This movie is not a RGV production. Are you happy with the way producer Bhusan Kumar is promoting the film?
A: Yes, I am happy with the promotion of the film. The feedback I am getting is nice. Mr. Kumar also knows what he wants. I would like to give him credit for the songs, especially for 'Tadap' and 'Na Khushi". I am happy working with him.

Personally, if I had produced the movie on my own, it would have been a very serious film.

I am obliged to Mr. Kumar for being able to make a movie which can be called a musical comedy horror film.

Q: There is also a buzz that you have sung one of the songs in the movie. Is it true?
A: It's a rumour. Actually, we were picturising an intense scene on Fardeen where he had to think of a song from a horror film, that too, one that was at least 20 years old.

We were thinking of "Bees Saal Baad" and I just gave a clue by humming "Kahi deep jale kahin dil". That's all. I have not sung any song in the movie.
