Says a top source from the company, "Sanju's current bail and his subsequent release has no connection with the 260-crore rupee deal that Whie Feather has cut with Eros International. It was Sanjay Gupta who has been negotiating with Eros for the past few months.
He was adamant on one issue. No way would White Feather bind itself down to an exclusive contract with Eros. Sanjay Gupta wanted the freedom to be able to make films independently or with other companies."
Gupta, according to informed sources, has taken a conscious decision to employ film persons at the administrative helm of White Feather.
"Director Hansal Mehta is the COO of the company. Two other filmmakers Shudipto Chatterjee (who's directing Pankh for White Feather) and also the producer of the Sanjy Suri starrer Dhoop are being brought into key positions. Gupta's logic is simple...Only those who know the film business can run it."
Adds the source, "We've been going slow with the releases this year so far. We had Shoot-out At Lokhandwala and Sanjay Gupta is planning a sequel for the end of next year with a new director.
Now in the second -half of 2007 White Feather has five releases coming up beginning with the 10-story bouquet Dus Kahaniyan.
Then there's Hansal Mehta's Woodstock Villa, Jahnu Barua's The Great Indian Butterfly, Shudipto Chatterjee's Pankh and Sarthak Dasgupta's The Great Indian Butterfly."
The source also quells all stories about strained relations between Dutt and Gupta. "Yes, there were issues about the payment of the Shootout At Lokhandwala team between the two friends. But after Sanjay Dutt's incarceration, Gupta went into a shell-shock. The two are now closer than ever before. Gupta visits his buddy every single day."
