“This is major theft. Major fraud. Pure robbery,” says Mandhira Kapur Smith accusing his late brother and industrialist Sunjay Kapur's widow Priya Kapur, in a explosive podcast—InControversial with Pooja Chadhuri.
The battle over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s massive estate is set to enter a more combustible phase, with sister Mandhira Kapur launching a blistering public attack on Priya Sachdev Kapur, accusing her of demanding secrecy at every stage of the inheritance process.
“You wanted an NDA. You wanted the Will in a sealed envelope. And now you don’t want a forensic. What are you hiding? How many games are we going to play?”
“As far as I go, I'm going to fight this till the end. Who is she not to pay the tuition fees, dude? It's not her money that she's claimed it. This is pure robbery. This is what you call major theft. This is what you call major fraud. And this country needs to wake up and see it,” said Mandhira Kapur.
Mandhira accused Priya of repeatedly resisting transparency, and claimed that her mother Rani Kapur was made to sign papers “behind closed doors” in the hours after Sunjay’s death. “My mother doesn’t know what she signed. She was overwhelmed, grieving and vulnerable. This family has been ripped off everything that belongs to us.”
“There is a family in which there were five of us who built this with dad. You can't cut us off,” said Mandhira.
Only after raising the secrecy concerns did Mandhira turn to the bloodline erasure, she believes is taking place.
The battle over the estate intensified further as she accused Priya of attempting to “erase Sunjay’s own bloodline” and corner the entire legacy for herself and her two children, Safira and Azarius.
“Safira has been called the daughter (in the Will). Samaira is the daughter -- not Safira. Safira is the stepdaughter. Her biological father (Vikram Chatwal) is alive,” said Mandhira Kapur, speaking at a podcast called ‘InControversial with Pooja Chaudhri’.
Mandhira’s remarks — emotional, direct and unfiltered — reinforce the questions raised by senior counsel Mahesh Jethmalani before the Delhi High Court on 13 October, when he argued that the Will Priya has placed before the court is “inconsistent, implausible and digitally suspicious.”
Together, their statements outline what the Kapur family describes as a deliberate strategy — isolate the family, manipulate the documentation, and redirect all assets to Priya and her children — at the total exclusion of Sunjay’s heirs Samaira and Kiaan, and his mother Rani.
“Samaira is the daughter. Safira is the stepdaughter.”
Mandhira’s central grievance is not subtle.
“Samaira is the daughter. Safira is the stepdaughter. Her father is alive. How are you even doing this to that family?”
The Will, as disclosed in court, names only Priya, her biological son Azarius and Safira, her daughter from her previous marriage to Vikram Chatwal. Not a single mention of Sunjay’s own first two children.
“Nobody is denying that my brother cared for Safira,” Mandhira said. “But don’t take over when Samaira is there. Don’t name Safira ‘the daughter.’ She is the stepdaughter. Stop rewriting lineage.”
Jethmalani, on 13 October, told the Delhi High Court the Will is littered with what he called “bloopers”: Safira’s name spelled perfectly, Azarius’ spelled incorrectly, and — most tellingly — the home address of Samaira and Kiaan entirely wrong.
Mandhira seized on this, saying, “My brother was a particular human being. You cannot misspell his son’s name. You cannot get his daughter’s address wrong. These are not mistakes — these are giveaways.
“Just because you've been with someone seven years, you cannot erase normal habits that we have grown up with. Nobody changes so drastically to be another person within seven years. Spelling mistakes, the wrong use of pronouns,” Mandhira added.
“You're depriving the whole family. You have stolen from our family. You have stolen. This is ours. It doesn't belong to you that you're claiming it. Like, what have you done? Gotten married? I mean, seriously? Had a child and it's all yours now. Everyone should get married like this, yeah? Everyone go get married, have a baby, and chalo, it's all yours!” said a shocked Mandhira.
A digital origin that makes no sense
The most damaging layer is the document’s digital trail.
Jethmalani told the court on 13 October the Will did not originate from Sunjay’s devices. Instead, metadata pinpoints its creation to the computer of Nitin Sharma, a Sona BLW employee with no personal connection to the Kapur family.
“Who prepared this Will?” he asked the bench.
“Why is it created and modified on Nitin Sharma’s machine on 17 March, when Sunjay was in Goa with his son Kiaan?”
Mandhira echoed the absurdity:
“You’re on holiday with your child — and simultaneously disinheriting him? Stop insulting our intelligence.”
On 24 March, the file was scanned and converted to PDF at 10:06 a.m., minutes before the creation of a WhatsApp group named Family Office IC that included Priya, Sharma and longtime aide Dinesh Agarwal.
A senior family associate called it “the theatre of grief, not the truth of it.”
A pattern — not an incident
Mandhira recalls an incident before Sunjay’s marriage with Priya —
“There was a fight in my house one day with my dad and my brother, where my dad very clearly told him in Delhi. But he said to her, I will never look at her. I never want her around me. She's not welcome into my house. Today you've taken over the damn house,” said Mandhira Kapur. The family believes the Will is only one component of a wider takeover.
Within a single quarter after Sunjay’s death, the Kapur name vanished from the Sona BLW promoter group. It was replaced by the Sachdev family.
“My brother led the legacy. He didn’t create the wealth — my father did,” Mandhira said.
In fact, Mandhira pointed out how Sunjay himself never wanted Priya Kapur to take control of any Sona Group asset.
“And isn't it odd that she was in fact removed from the board of AIPL back in May 2023. And very conveniently in May 2025, she's back on the board and she's appointed to various... When you hear the whispers going around, you'll understand what's going on. I mean, the whispers are very clear that there was problems in the marriage. So obviously, which have not come to light. I mean, we've heard they were going for counselling from not one source, from many sources. So, there's a reason she was removed,” said Mandhira Kapur.
“Priya should be ashamed to be walking around representing our family. This is our estate. Our inheritance.”
The family home in Rajokri, built “brick by brick” by Mandhira’s mother, is now — according to her — inaccessible even to its creators.
“My mother sat under a tree supervising the labourers. Today, she cannot even enter her own home.”
“Little Priya’s puppets”: Agarwal and Sharma under scrutiny
Mandhira saved some of her harshest words for Dinesh Agarwal and Nitin Sharma, whose computers and WhatsApp activity form part of the disputed Will’s trail.
“They are little Priya’s puppets,” she said.
“I grew up around them. They worked for my father. Where is their loyalty? Shame on them.”
According to the Kapur family, both have stopped communicating with Sunjay’s mother and sister.
“This family has been cut off from everything. It’s intentional. It’s strategic.”
“This is major theft. Major fraud.”
The consequences, Mandhira says, fall squarely on the children.
“Those two kids, Samaira and Kiaan — they’ve lost their best friend. And now they’re being robbed of everything that is rightfully theirs.”
She accuses Priya of refusing even basic expenses:
“Who is she not to pay the school fees? It’s not her money. This is major theft. Major fraud.”
A narrow path to settlement — but with conditions
Despite the bitterness, Mandhira says the family is not closing the door.
“If everything my mother signed post-2017 is shown to my sister and our lawyers, they will sit at the table.”
Until then, she says:
“I will not let her take my father’s legacy away. I will fight till the end.”
