Aditya Dhar Clarifies: Dhurandhar Is Not Based on the Life of Major Mohit Sharma!
The recently released trailer of Dhurandhar has ignited widespread curiosity, with viewers speculating about the real-life inspirations behind the film’s intense narrative. Many fans believed Ranveer Singh’s character might be modeled after Major Mohit Sharma, the decorated Indian Army officer who famously went undercover as Iftikhar Bhatt to infiltrate the Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s. However, director Aditya Dhar has now stepped in to officially address the rumors.

Director Aditya Dhar Issues a Clear Denial

Responding directly to Mohit Sharma’s brother, Madhur Sharma, who tagged him on social media to seek clarity, Aditya Dhar firmly rejected the speculation. He wrote: “Hi, sir — our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us.”

His message puts to rest the ongoing discussions surrounding the film’s alleged real-life connections, reassuring the family and the public that Dhurandhar is not a biographical depiction of the late officer.

Who Was Major Mohit Sharma? A True National Hero

Major Mohit Sharma remains one of India’s most revered military heroes. Known for his extraordinary courage, he conducted one of the most daring undercover operations in modern Indian military history by posing as militant Iftikhar Bhatt to infiltrate the Hizbul Mujahideen.

In 2009, during an encounter with terrorists in the Kupwara sector of Jammu & Kashmir, Major Mohit Sharma made the ultimate sacrifice. His valor and service to the nation earned him the Ashoka Chakra — India’s highest peacetime gallantry award — which was conferred posthumously.

Rumors Stemmed From Dhurandhar’s Intense Narrative

Since the film is described as being “inspired by true events,” viewers have been eager to identify parallels with real-world operations. The gritty tone of the trailer and Ranveer Singh’s character arc fueled speculation, prompting discussions across social media platforms.

However, Dhar’s clarification emphasizes that while Dhurandhar may draw from a broad spectrum of real incidents, it does not portray Major Mohit Sharma’s story.

Respecting Legacy While Ensuring Creative Independence

Aditya Dhar also expressed deep respect for Mohit Sharma’s bravery and reiterated that any future biopic on the martyred officer would be created only with full family involvement. His commitment ensures that the legacy of the Ashoka Chakra awardee would be honored with dignity, authenticity, and sensitivity.

As Dhurandhar continues to build anticipation ahead of release, fans can now appreciate the film for its original narrative while remembering and saluting the real-life heroism of Major Mohit Sharma.
