"It's very simple logistics," explains Prakash Jha who has directors like Sudhir Mishra and Nana Patekar on his pay roll. "I can personally make one film a year. What does my office, staff and infrastructure do the rest of the time?
Abbas-Mustan who have so far directed films for outside producers, have now turned producers with the Tamil version of Nishikant Kamath's Domibivili Express.
"And he has done such a brilliant job," exults Abbas. "We've now decided to re-make the film in Hindi with the same director. It has to be the same director, since no other director can translate the vision the same way. In fact the Tamil version of Nishikant's film is better than the Marathi. We we're sure the Hindi version will be even better."
While the Tamil version stars Madhavan as an ordinary man struggling to keep his sanity, the Hindi version is yet to be cast.
"We may cast a big star or an unknown face," says Abbas. And adds, "We now intend to produce many more films. We'll soon be announcing 5-6 films with new and established directors."
