Director: Deepesh Sumitra Jagdish
Rating: ***
The wait for the "Tripod" is finally over. Aspirants: Season 3 premiered today, March 13, 2026, on Prime Video. This season, TVF takes a bold leap, shifting the focus from the dusty libraries of Old Rajinder Nagar to the high-stakes corridors of power.
Here is the detailed review of the latest chapter in the UPSC saga.
Season 3 continues with its signature dual-timeline structure but with a darker, more cynical undertone.
The Present: Abhilash Sharma (Naveen Kasturia), now the District Magistrate of Rampur, faces a massive professional and personal crisis. His former mentor, Sandeep Bhaiya (Sunny Hinduja), now an Assistant Labour Commissioner, has leveled serious corruption allegations against him regarding a government tender.
The Past: The story revisits Mukherjee Nagar during Abhilash’s final "do-or-die" attempt at the IAS after qualifying for the IRS.
The script by Deepesh Sumitra Jagdish masterfully explores the "Hindi vs. English medium" divide and the moral decay that often follows success. The stakes are no longer just about passing an exam; they are about maintaining integrity in a system designed to test it.
Direction & Screenplay
Deepesh Sumitra Jagdish, taking the directorial reins, maintains the slow-burn emotionality TVF is known for. The screenplay brilliantly uses the "rivalry" between Abhilash and Sandeep to highlight how power can turn mentors into adversaries. The pacing in the mid-episodes feels a bit stretched, but the tension in the inquiry room scenes is palpable.
Performances
Naveen Kasturia: Naveen delivers a transformative performance. He portrays the "DM Abhilash" as a man who is becoming increasingly isolated by his own ego and the weight of his chair.
Sunny Hinduja: Sandeep Bhaiya remains the soul of the show, but this season, he is a "soul on fire." Hinduja’s transition from a supportive mentor to a relentless whistleblower is chillingly effective.
The Trio (Shivankit Singh Parihar & Abhilash Thapliyal): Guri and SK provide the much-needed emotional warmth. Their struggle to recognize the friend they once knew in the cold, administrative version of Abhilash is heartbreakingly relatable.
Jatin Goswami: A fantastic new addition as a rival DM who adds a fresh layer of political maneuvering to the plot.
Music & Technical Craft
The music continues to be a highlight, with "Aspirants" anthems that will likely dominate playlists again. The cinematography subtly shifts—Mukherjee Nagar is shot in warm, nostalgic tones, while the Rampur administrative offices are cold, gray, and imposing.
Final Verdict
Aspirants: Season 3 is a mature, high-stakes sequel that asks a difficult question: Is the person who wins the race the same person who started it? While it lacks some of the simple "coaching life" charm of Season 1, it compensates with a gripping administrative thriller and powerhouse acting.
