Sheena Chohan portrays Raja Ravi Varma's iconic women with a modern twist!
Internationally acclaimed Pan-India actress Sheena Chohan steps into the world of legendary painter Raja Ravi Varma with a striking four-image photographic series that beautifully reimagines his iconic women for a modern audience.

Known for portraying Indian femininity with depth and dignity, Ravi Varma’s muses—graceful, powerful, and emotionally rich—have shaped cultural imagination for generations. In this visually captivating tribute, Sheena doesn’t just recreate these paintings—she inhabits them, bringing a rare sense of thought and emotion to each frame, in which you can feel the character think.

The series unfolds like a cinematic narrative, capturing the timeless essence of Indian womanhood. As Damayanti, she captures a moment of quiet destiny, sharing an intimate exchange with the swan—her expression reflecting curiosity and strength. In the moonlit portrait, she embodies stillness and introspection, drawing viewers into a space of calm reflection. As the princess with fruits, she radiates warmth and grace, symbolising abundance and quiet resilience. The final frame presents the classical heroine—poised, dignified, and deeply aware—capturing the timeless essence of Indian womanhood.

Each image is crafted with meticulous detail—from costume and jewellery to lighting and posture—creating a seamless blend of classical art and cinematic expression.

Speaking about the project, Sheena shares, “Recreating Raja Ravi Varma’s women was incredibly inspiring for me. What drew me in was how he portrayed them—not just as beautiful figures, but as women with depth, emotion, and agency. As an actor, I connect deeply with such layered characters. This series was my way of honouring their strength and making them feel alive and relevant today.”

Shot at Evolve Back Hampi, the series stands as a tribute to India’s rich artistic heritage while reintroducing the classical heroine to contemporary storytelling.

On the work front, Sheena continues to make her mark across industries. After her acclaimed performance in Sant Tukaram, she will next be seen alongside JD Chakravarthy in Jatasya Maranam Dhruvam, and in Arjunanin Allirani, written by B. Jeyamohan with music by Ilaiyaraaja, and her Hollywood feature Nomad.

With this project, Sheena Chohan not only revisits history but relives it—proving that timeless stories, when told with conviction and a deep embodiment of character, come alive through her ability to fully inhabit and bring each role to life.
