Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 Review: Wrestlers and Web of Lies: A Mis-Matched Comedy of Errors!
Cast: Avinash Tiwary, Medha Shankr, Lillete Dubey, Govind Namdeo
Director: Prasshant Jha
Rating: ***

Hitting theaters today, April 24, 2026, Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 (stylized with a double 's') is a spiritual sequel to the 2020 OTT hit. While the first film featured Vikrant Massey and Yami Gautam, this installment introduces a fresh pairing—Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr—under the direction of Prasshant Jha.

The Story & Script

The narrative takes a sharp, quirky turn from the original. Sunny (Avinash Tiwary) is a state-level wrestler, a gruff and solitary man who has essentially given up on the idea of a "modern" marriage. Through a series of fake news and digital lies orchestrated by his family, he is matched with Ginny (Medha Shankr).

The twist? Ginny has also been "sold" to him under false pretenses. The script by Prasshant Jha explores the chaos that ensues when two people realize their entire foundation of marriage is built on a deck of lies. While the premise is ripe for comedy, the writing occasionally leans too heavily into melodrama in the second half, losing some of the "breezy" charm expected from the franchise.

Direction & Screenplay

Prasshant Jha manages to ground the film in the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand, giving it a visually refreshing "mountain rom-com" vibe. The screenplay is peppered with sharp, witty banter that feels current. However, at 133 minutes, the film feels a bit stretched. A tighter edit in the middle act, where the couple deals with their respective eccentric families, would have kept the momentum higher.

Performances

Avinash Tiwary: Fresh off the intensity of Dhurandhar 2, Tiwary shows incredible range here. His "gruff wrestler with a soft heart" is endearing, and his comedic timing—especially when his character is confused by modern dating apps—is a highlight.

Medha Shankr: Following her breakout success in 12th Fail, Shankr proves she can carry a mainstream commercial lead with ease. She brings a feisty, independent energy to Ginny that balances Tiwary’s stoic Sunny.

The Supporting Cast: The veteran "family squad"—Lillete Dubey, Sudhir Pandey, and Govind Namdeo—are the real MVPs. Their constant interference and bizarre logic provide the film's loudest laughs. Gopi Bhalla also makes a memorable appearance, adding his signature flavor of comedy.

Music & Technical Craft

Music: The soundtrack is a major win. The reimagined "Chhaap Tilak" is already a viral sensation, and the emotional track "Aye Khuda" adds depth to the couple's introspective moments.

Cinematography: Archit Patel captures the mist-covered hills and vibrant local markets of Uttarakhand beautifully, making the film feel like a warm, cinematic hug.

Final Verdict

Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 is a wholesome, family-friendly entertainer that relies on the "Opposites Attract" trope with a digital-age twist. It doesn't reinvent the genre, but the lead pair’s chemistry makes it a pleasant one-time watch. It’s a "warm pav with extra butter"—simple, familiar, and satisfying.

Critic's Quote: “Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr prove that even a marriage built on fake news can find a real heart. A charming, if slightly overlong, romantic getaway.”
