"Duty, Dilemma, and Deception": Saif Ali Khan's 'Kartavya' Trailer Out Now!
Fresh off the press! The official trailer for Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming crime thriller Kartavya was unveiled yesterday, Thursday, May 7, 2026. Marking Saif's first-ever collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment, the film is set to skip the theatrical route and premiere directly on Netflix on May 15, 2026.

Directed by Pulkit (who recently helmed the hard-hitting Bhakshak), the trailer promises a gritty, morally complex look at the life of a cop caught in a "no-win" situation.

The Plot: A Cop Under Fire

The trailer introduces us to Pawan Malik (Saif Ali Khan), a sincere police officer in the North Indian heartland town of Jhamli.

The Catalyst: Pawan's life is thrown into chaos when a journalist is shot and killed while under his protection.

The Manhunt: Under pressure from his bullying superior (Manish Chaudhari), Pawan tracks down the shooter, only to discover the culprit is a minor named Harpal.

The Mastermind: The investigation leads Pawan to Anand Shri (played by journalist Saurabh Dwivedi in his acting debut), a villainous godman who exploits children for illegal activities before making them "disappear."

Personal Stakes: While fighting the system, Pawan’s own family comes under threat due to a dispute involving his brother, forcing him to choose between his professional duty (Kartavya) and his blood.

A Powerhouse Ensemble

The trailer highlights a cast that leans heavily into "realism" and "restraint":

Rasika Dugal: Plays Saif’s supportive but worried wife.
Sanjay Mishra: Features as Saif’s trusted professional partner.
Saurabh Dwivedi: The well-known founder of The Lallantop makes a chilling debut as the primary antagonist.
The Crew: Cinematography by the legendary Anil Mehta ensures the "heartland" looks both authentic and haunting.

'Kartavya' (2026) Snapshot

Feature Details Release Date May 15, 2026 (Friday) Platform Netflix Production Red Chillies Entertainment (Gauri Khan) Director Pulkit Cast Saif Ali Khan, Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, Saurabh Dwivedi

"Life in the Grey"

Saif Ali Khan described his character as a man constantly negotiating with himself. Director Pulkit added that the film isn't a simple "hero-villain" story but rather an exploration of the human conflict beneath the surface of a crime. With Saif returning to the "cop" avatar after Vikram Vedha and Sacred Games, fans are eagerly anticipating a "win" for the versatile actor.

SantaBanta Verdict:

Red Chillies has a knack for producing grounded, high-quality digital content, and Kartavya looks like it fits right into that prestige category. By moving away from the "super-cop" tropes and focusing on the crushing weight of duty, Saif Ali Khan seems to have found a project that challenges the audience as much as the character. If you're a fan of intense investigative thrillers, May 15th is your date with Netflix.
