Popular singer and composer Shanker Mahadevan today said it ought not be presumed that the winner of any Musical Reality show be a good singer.

''We have witnessed that those, who lost due to the voting pattern in these popular shows had a good voice, while those winning the top slot were average,'' Shanker told mediapersons here.

Shankar who composes music with his team members Ehsaan and Loy has given many hit compositions like 'Kajrare Kajrare', 'Dil Chahta Hai' and 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' in the recent years.

Shanker, a classical Indian vocalist who also gave chances to several new talents, suggested these budding youth to continue their hard work even after winning the reality show as all the music directors go by the voice and not by the trophy.

The music director said his first private music album would be released by next year.

The trio -- Shanker, Ehsaan, Loy -- are in the city of nawabs for a live concert on the opening day of the North India McDowells No1 Cheers India tour.

The music directors have composed music for many successful films like 'Mission Kashmir', 'Bunty aur Babli' and latest 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'.

On asked about his ambitions to become a renowned singer, Shankar said becoming a music director is more achieving than becoming a singer.'' ''Music director is like a mother, while singers are like children,'' he added.

Shanker's aspiration for singing still continues as he himself sings one or two songs in all his music composed films, while some of his friends like A R Rahman also calls him occasionally to do the job.
