India's Tannishtha Chatterjee lost the Best Actress Award to Hollywood's Judi Dench in the prestigious 10th British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) here Wednesday night.
Tannishtha, who has acted in movies like "Bas Yun Hi" and "Swaraaj", was nominated for coveted award for her role in the British movie "Brick Lane", based on Monica Ali's prize-winning novel.
The film is about the experiences of a woman named Nazneen, who leaves her Bangladesh village for London's East End to make a new life with her much older husband, played by Satish Kaushik.
Judi Dench had been nominated for her role in "Notes on a Scandal".
Other nominees were Anne Hathaway for "Becoming Jane", Sophia Miles for "Hallam Foe" and Kierston Waring for her role in "It's a Free World", the BBC reported.
"Control", the biopic about late Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, scooped awards in five different categories at the BIFA, including the best film award.
