"End of an Iconic Era of Villainy": Veteran Actor Pradeep Rawat Passes Away at 74 After Cancer Relapse!
Veteran actor Pradeep Rawat, renowned for delivering some of Indian cinema’s most formidable screen antagonists and character portrayals, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the age of 74.

The actor breathed his last around 6:30 PM at a hospital in Bhiwandi, Mumbai, following complications from a recent relapse of blood cancer. His business manager, Siddharth Tiwari, confirmed the news, stating that while Rawat had successfully overcome cancer four years ago, a severe relapse six weeks prior led to a sudden drop in platelet levels from which he could not recover.

Career Milestones: From 'Mahabharat' to 'Ghajini'

Over a career spanning more than four decades across Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema, Rawat established a legacy as one of the most recognizable screen villains:

B.R. Chopra's 'Mahabharat' (1988): Gained nationwide prominence portraying the formidable warrior Ashwatthama, marking his career-defining television breakthrough.

'Lagaan' (2001): Displayed his range beyond negative roles as Deva Singh Sodhi, the fiercely loyal Sikh sepoy in Ashutosh Gowariker's Oscar-nominated epic.

'Ghajini' (2005 & 2008): Defined contemporary villainy playing the ruthless crime lord Ghajini Dharmatma in both Suriya’s Tamil original and Aamir Khan’s blockbuster Hindi remake.

South Indian Cinema Legacy: Introduced to Telugu cinema with S.S. Rajamouli's Sye (2004) (for which he won the Nandi Award), going on to star in blockbusters like Bhadra, Jagapathi, and Waltair Veerayya.

Recent Screen Appearance: Portrayed Yesaji Kanak in the historical feature Chhaava alongside Vicky Kaushal.
