From Nusrat Sahab to Bhangra to Indipop to western techno, Partners In Rhyme take us through it all. A better than average album in most parts, it is worth more than a listen.
Tere Bin Nahin Lagda sung by the great Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan kicks off the album and is definitely the pick of the album. The best part about this version is that PIR haven't used a lot of music that would have otherwise drowned the maestro's voice. The music pretty much complements the mood and original rhythm of this classic. The next song, Some Day, is a very western composition with Shankar Mahadevan contributing in Hindi, accompanied by Jagdeep Singh singing in English. Good singing with good music make it a hummable song. Something very unlike the regular Indipop stuff.
The next is Gal Sun with Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sikander crooning together. This is a typical Bhangra number. Cut to the next track Aankhon Se Tu Door that has Alka Yagnik doing the honors. A soft love ballad, it does make you want to listen to it again. Mahalakshmi Iyer singing Pyar Kehta Hai is very techno infused but sung well by the singer. Tera Thumka by Sikander and Mitran De by Jasdeep Grewal are the other Bhangra based track that have nothing new to offer but would appeal to diehard Punjabi fans. In Rabba Mere Main Kya Karoon Kavita Krishnamurthy does full justice to the song that has good music. The album rounds off with Chandini Raatein sung with zest by Shamsa Kanwal. This was the song that gave PIR the recognition they needed.
A surprisingly good effort from the PIR guys. Keep it up!!!!!!
