Yet another year has ticked over and 2008 is up through the horizon. It is time for many to ponder how to make the New Year better than the year that has just passed by.

It is time for people to make New Year resolutions to try and change old habits, create new ones, work harder, spend more time with family, earn more money, quit smoking, lose weight, and so on.

There will be so many objectives that many will probably be forgotten about even before the first month is over.

The New Year is a great time to review your past and plan for your future, but for any real change to occur there has to be a long term commitment. It is a time to open a new chapter in your life.

During the last week, we spoke to a number of celebrities in Mumbai to find out about their New Year resolutions and how they plan to keep their vows. Here are the excerpts:

Masumeh Makhija (Actress)
I am celebrating this New Year with my family members in Pune. My dad is here from Canada and it will be great fun. Basically, we celebrate Diwali and the New Year together and this time it will be no exception.

For me the New Year holds great value. In fact, as Indians we are fortunate to be a part of a multi-cultural family and celebrate so many New Year days every year. I celebrate all of them with my friends.

Do you know that every year I try to learn something new? This year I intend to learn flying and talks are on with flying club near Baramati in this regard. I hope and pray that my dreams are fulfilled.

Tapur Chatterjee (Model)
Frankly speaking, I don't have any plans or resolutions for the New Year. I don't believe in New Year resolutions and feel that resolutions are made only to be broken.

I have no complaints with my life and whatever I do in life; I do them from my heart. For me New Year resolution means working to make the future better.

On this day, I prefer being at home or visiting some close ones to being outside. As it is too crowded on the streets, I always like to spend the New Year with relatives and friends.

Aryan Vaid (Model & Actor)
This New Year, I will be performing at the New Mumbai Sports Club along with Daler Mehndi, Isha Koppikar and Nisha Kothari. I will stage a dance performance based on songs from ‘Dard-e-Disco' and ‘Bhul Bhulaiya'.

To me the New Year is no special day and neither do I believe in making New Year resolutions. A mere change in date does not mean anything for real changes in life only come from inner beliefs and commitments.

In any case, a person can make a resolution any day and improve his life; there is no need to wait for the New Year.

Priyanka (Nisha) Kothari (Actress)
This New Year I will be performing at the New Mumbai Sports Club. I will be performing on the music of ‘Aa kushi se khudkushi kar le', "Mazaa nahin hain dikhane mein', ‘It is rocking' and ‘You are my mind blowing Mahiya'.

Although the New Year means a lot to me, I never make any New Year resolutions as they are made to be broken. If you really want to know about my New Year resolution, ask me in 2009, I believe I will be able to tell you something then.

Anyways, every New Year, I hope things will happen for the better. I want to proceed in life with good thoughts and beliefs.

Nikhil Diwedi (Actor)
I don't have any plans for the New Year. In fact, I prefer to sleep early than keeping awake and making merry on the occasion of the New Year.

This year, I will be required to go to Jaipur on the New Year for my film's promotion and will have to quit bet as early as 5:00 am.

Nevertheless, 2008 is very crucial for me as my first film will be releasing this year. My resolution for the New Year is to work harder so that I may have a firm footing in Bollywood.

Shalini Kapoor (TV Actress)
This New Year I am with my family. Although I received many offers to perform on the occasion of the New Year, I have preferred to be with my family. We will go out and enjoy. The basic idea is to be bonded with the family.

To me, the New year is the time when we make resolutions, it means completing the work that I could not complete the previous year, setting up new targets and achieving new targets because I am very focused every year and try to achieve my targets.

My New Year targets will be different this year. In 2008, my New Year resolution is to be more successful and to concentrate more on myself and knowing my strengths and weaknesses. I want to improve upon my strengths and do away with my weaknesses.

Anita Hasnandani (TV and Film Artiste)
Although I have no plans for the New Year, I want to usher in 2008 with joy and happiness. I believe that you should spend the New Year with people who are close to you and whom you love and care for. Since I rise very late, this New Year my resolution is to be an early riser.

Ruslan Mumtaz (Actor)
I have a record and that is never having celebrated a New Year in Mumbai. I will be spending this New Year with my friend at his new home in Karjat. For me, the New Year means new dreams, hopes and expectations.

It is an opportunity to amend the past mistakes and transform failures into successes. This New Year I resolve to earn more and cut down on my expenses. Last year, I just did the opposite.

Sunil Grover (TV Artiste)
This New Year I am at my friend's farm house at Panval where I am making a whole lot of resolutions. We had a New Year eve party from 10:30 pm to 2:00 am and we had merrymaking with music and drinks.

In between, we had a break at midnight to wish each other a Happy New Year. For me life is like a book where each New Year is a new chapter.

Like in every new chapter we learn something new, I intend to learn something new each New Year. I am very excited about stepping into 2008 and my New Year resolutions are to earn a whole lot of money as well as do something so that people know and remember me by my real name.

Sara Khan (TV Artiste)
Although I have no plans for the New Year yet, I have spent the occasion with Parul (Bidaai – Raagini) and my college friends. Together we have been making a lot of fun to welcome the New Year.

Actually, I am new in Mumbai and hence my friends' circle here as well as knowledge about the metropolis is poor. For me the New Year hold a lot of significance and I intend to work harder to put my career on a firm footing during 2008.

Actually, we make a lot of promises and resolutions on this occasion, but are able to keep very few. I hope that I am able to keep my vows.
