Amisha Patel`s date with success has been renewed, one could say. Her current film, Humraaz, is said to be doing well in urban centers. That`s good news and reason to be delighted. There`s something about the super success rate of her movies in which she plays pivotal role (though as a second fiddle) and her performances. Take Kaho Na Pyar Hai which was Hrithik Roshan`s launch vehicle. Any focus on the actress was by way of a rub off. Yet she benefitted.
Then came Gadar. Driven by Dharam putta Sunny Deol`s favourite Pak-bashing act, good music, painstakingly put up period set-up, etc. the movie went on to be a smash hit at the box office. Though Amisha did a lot of rona-dhona, performance-wise she got the flak. But her box office standing only improved further. Her latest Abbas-Mastan-directed Humraaz seems to be going the predictable way vis-a-vice her performance. Despite a substantial and multi-layered character which she essays, the movie`s USP remains a classic bad guy act by the redoubtable Akshaye Khanna. Other accolades go to its director duo, the thriller kings of Bollywood. Her other films - Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar, Kranti and Kya Yahi Pyaar Hai - where her hot babe image is comparatively downplayed, bombed.
What`s the verdict then? Whenever she plays a glamorous girl with a healthy dose of oomph (and maybe a little `else`), the audiences just lap it up. Which means the lady shouldn`t take herself too seriously. Good for her!
