A small time film, which went unnoticed at the box office, it was followed by ‘Sacred Evil - A True Story' which did even worse.
Though she did get into hardcore commercial setup with ‘Baabul', Sarika's small role and failure of the film at the box office meant that the actress still had a task on hand to create a market for herself.
‘Parzania' came across as a shot in the arm though most of the credit should go to the critical success of the film rather than commercial. ‘Bheja Fry' and ‘Manorama Six Feet Under' kept her in news though both the films again belonged to offbeat variety, hence restricting the audience inflow.
All of this makes ‘Shoebite', a film by Shoojit Sarkar, her biggest comeback project ever. Paired opposite none other than Amitabh Bachchan, she has now entered an elite group of those few actresses who have found an opportunity to act alongside him ever since he has started picking up senior citizen roles.
Also, it comes across as near unbelievable that in spite of first playing a leading lady way back in late 70s and being a child actor for a decade before that, she never got a chance to share screen space with Big B.
Coming back to her current crop of films, Sarika also has another biggie titled ‘U Me Aur Hum' coming up.
Produced and directed by Ajay Devgan, the film is set on a lavish scale, boasts of good star cast and has 'This is hardcore commercial cinema' written all over it.
Though not much is known about Sarika's role in the film, there is a strong belief that she has a substantial part to dig upon and her presence in the film won't go unnoticed.
Some of the other films that Sarika has been a part of in recent times are N. Chandra's ‘Breaking News' and Sagar 'Bheja Fry' Ballary's ‘Kaccha Limboo'. Both the films are complete and awaiting release.-
