Bollywood director-actor Rajat Kapoor says women might play ornamental roles in reel life but they are more powerful than men in real life.

'As far as Indian cinema is concerned actresses are still considered decorative while heroes take the cake. However, in real life and specially in relationships, women are more powerful than men,' said the actor who often dons the mantle of director too.

'A woman keeps a family or any relationship intact. In my home I am a slave to my wife (Meenal) and daughter (Rabia),' Rajat told.

Audiences have heaped praise on the multifaceted star for his latest directorial venture 'Mithya', which stars Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia and Naseeruddin Shah.

His stint in Bollywood started as a director with 'Tarana'. Soon critical acclaim followed with 'Raghu Romeo' and 'Mixed Doubles'.

He has no commercial hits to his name yet and most of his films target a niche audience, but he is unfazed.

'I have a certain sensibility and I make films in accordance with that. I am not interested in making an 'Om Shanti Om' because it does nothing for me. When I watch it, I am bored.'

As an actor, he started his career with telefilms and television serials. The talented star forayed into big-time acting with the blockbuster 'Dil Chahta Hai'. Rajat's performance was largely appreciated in 'Corporate', 'Bheja Fry' and 'Khoya Khoya Chand'.

Currently, the actor is hosting a celebrity chat show on entertainment and lifestyle TV channel NDTV Good Times and National Geographic's quiz show 'Lufthansa Nat Geo Genius'.

However, he resists any plans of acting in soap operas or making them.

'I am not interested in doing television serials. Selling serious content is difficult through daily soaps. Trivialisation of news and TV is going on worldwide and one can't fight it.

'Moreover, one can't make a good serial because the economics of the small screen are so bizarre.'

Rajat's forthcoming films include 'I am 24', 'Anuranan', 'Halla' and 'Raat Gayi Baat Gayi'.
