This should be enough to summarize the lean patch both of them seem to be going through. If Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin wasn`t enough, then music lovers are forced to undergo the traumatic torture of Chor Machaye Shor. In your wildest of dreams, do not even think of anyLe Jayenge Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge or Ghunghroo Ki Tarah from the 70`s namesakeChor Machaye Shor that starred Shashi Kapoor and Mumtaz. Instead what we are subjected to is a plethora of insipid numbers likeTum Tata Ho Ya Birla or Kaan Ke Neche Baja Daaloonga from this Rajiv Tolani production that has music by Anu Malik and has a host of lyricists. Now it is Bobby Deol`s turn to try his luck with a comedy directed by David Dhawan. Shilpa Shetty and Bipasha Basu-who is considered as a lucky mascot with four hits in a row - Ajanbee, Raaz, Aankhen and Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai are Bobby`s costars.
What Chor Machaye Shor also lacks in is VARIETY. All songs sound familiar, there is not even a single melodious track and well-most of them have beenheard before. Chhadh Gayi Chhadh Gayi is an item number choreographed on Bobby Deol and Shilpa Shetty. High beats, jhatka matkas and flashy dresses constitute this track written by Tejpal Kaur. Nothing special about this number which doesn`t excite even after repeated viewings.Aankhen Hai Teri Badi Badi is sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik voice-alike Dimple Verma. Again a masala - jhataka - patakha number, it fails to explode and is just OK.
Vinod Rathod and Anuradha Sriram seem to be more excited than anyone else when they renderTum Tata Ho Ya Birla-an item number written by (?) two lyricists Dev Kohli and Minoo Singh. Strictly for a select audience, it doesn`t hold even faintest of class appeal and is in one word - DUD. Title numberChor Machaye Shor by Sonu Nigam is no great shakes either. Newcomer Farhad writes for this track which is again no more than a time pass. This is a song about a `chor` who dreams of being BIG one fine day. Duo of Vinod Rathod and Anuradha Sriram return withKaan Ke Neeche Baja Daaloonga (Sick!!) Lyrics are down market here and the song qualifies for yet another tapori entry for the dismal 2002. Well, all is not lost yet and there is something to hum about with the last song of the album -Ishqan Ishqan Ho Gayi by Tejpal Kaur. Dunno whether the lyrics are syntactically and semantically correct, but the musical arrangements, oomphy Shilpa Shetty and Adnan`s and Sunidhi`s vocals make it a well-packaged track.
This is all that Chor Machaye Shor comprises of. An album which is very much forgettable, very much below average and very much AVOIDABLE. Incidentally only thing different and pleasant about the album is the cover design which is glossy and set in a fun mood !!!
