The muhurat shot of the film Maarket looked straight out of a red light area. Manisha Koirla, dressed as a sex -worker, all decked up in red salwar kameez, chewing paan throws a man out of her room. Yukta, who also plays a sex worker, on the other hand is depicted talking on a cell phone and finalising a deal.If the first shot is anything to go by, the film will realistically represent an industry that has been alternately ignored or glamourized by Hindi movies.
Maarket is a film which explores the lives of sex workers in India. Manisha is invited to Mumbai by her friend (played by Yukta.) Manisha is excited about her role, `The film will show me in a different light. The girl I play belongs to a poor Hyderabadi family and gets involved in the sex trade. She comes to Mumbai and takes revenge on the people who have done wrong to her.`
For Yukta, her role in the film is a dream come true, `Manisha is my dream actress. I can`t believe that I am doing a film with her. I liked the subject and it is high time that we have some realistic films made in India.`Maarket is being directed by newcomer Prakash Shaw and is being produced by Rama Adhikari and Atif Khan under the banner of Tirumalai Pictures. The film also stars Shweta Menon and Aryan Vaid. Let`s hope that the film succeeds in its attempt to throw light upon a grossly neglected subject in mainstream Indian cinema
