We all know that Govinda`s English, while not being as bad as Laloo Prasad Yadav`s, isn`t too good either. The actor, who has hit a new low after a series of flops, is in a reflective mood these days. So when he bumped into a leading director who speaks the language pretty well, Govinda apparently said: "Sir, my comedies aren`t working any longer."
This director, who is actually a fairly compassionate fellow, told Govinda that things would change because nothing coming out of Bollywood was working anyway. Not too convinced by that line of argument, Govinda murmured: "Na sir, I have been signing up all kinds of wrong films. I think my roles need mutton." He meant meat. Obviously. The director, who was more than amused, just kept his mouth shut and nodded in agreement. But then, one should appreciate Govinda`s new philosophy if not his choice of words, One, and perhaps the only reason, why his films aren`t doing well is since he has been playing the same kind of roles for a long time. The David Dhawan hangover seems to rub off on all his characters virtually, and whether or not he is doing a film for Dhawan.
After having admired Govinda for several years in his avatar of a buffoon, many do feel that his tenure as a comic hero has come to an end. It is time to switch tracks, change gears, seek diversity. This he can only do if his roles have mutton: or chicken if you please which his viewers have not tasted all these years. But the problem is, and one insider puts it most articulately, who will sign up Govinda to do what he has not done all these years? May be, Govinda can make a film with him as the hero, without having Kirti Kumar as the director of course!
