The racism I faced didn`t interest people: rapper Hard Kaur

Indian origin female rap artist Taran 'Hard' Kaur Dhillon, who made waves with her foot-tapping number 'Move Your Body' in the film 'Johnny Gaddar', says she faced racism in Britain before making a mark on the music scene.

'People weren't really interested in knowing about the racism I faced in Britain. So I decided to put on a skirt and since everyone likes to party, I sang 'Glassy' (a popular Punjabi rap song), ' Hard Kaur, as she is popularly known, told on phone from Mumbai.

'I have worked very hard to reach where I am today, ' says the 18-year-old artiste.

Hard Kaur, who has been singing since she was 16, used to stay in Punjab earlier. But when she was 10 years old, her family left for Britain due to riots in her hometown.

One of her new projects 'This is Splitsvilla' - the title track of MTV's new romance reality show 'Splitsvilla' - has brought her to Mumbai right now.

There are talks for a movie based on her life. 'I have been approached by Aditya Bhattacharya for a movie; however, no contracts have been signed yet, ' she said.

Success didn't come easy to the young singer. 'I had to visit a lot of people both in India and in Britain before I finally ended up with an album.'

But after becoming an established singer herself, Hard Kaur is trying to encourage budding Asian aspirants to fulfil their dreams through her music label 'Music Ltd'. Her only criterion, however, is that 'people should be dedicated towards their work.'

Speaking about the 'Splitsvilla' track, she said: 'The show is about 20 girls trying to woo two guys. I think it would be a perfect combo. Men will love the 20 hot girls and the girls will love all the backbiting and politic.'

On being asked about her experience of working with MTV, she said: 'I love MTV and MTV loves me! They are also very organised.'

Even though she is ready to foray into films, singing would never take a backseat for her. 'I might even take up interior designing, but music will always be the best!' she quipped.
