Shabaz Khan, the actor who played a revolutionist is tele-serial Yug followed by his romantic portrayal of a prince in Chandrakanta who falls in love with princess in the enemy kingdom, is always in a search for doing something different every time.

The talented actor, who still continues his rewaaz as classical singer, will now be seen as an orthodox man who hinders women in his house from working outside. Let's share some moments with him...

Q. How does it feel to be in Grahasti?
A. It feels great, fantastic. Most of the actors, I am working with, are those with whom I have worked before also. It's like coming back home and I like working with producer Sanjay Wadhwa and Komal Wadhwa, so it is like a pleasure to me working with them.

Q. Tell us something about your character in the serial.
A. Balwinder Khurana, the character I am playing, is a very different character of all those I have played till now.

The character is of an orthodox man who has got his on set principles of not allowing women to go out and work and he believes that women should look after the house, cook for the man and look after their children.

He feels that if that right is allowed, women may go out of hand. He comes across as a negative guy because of his belief but is not exactly negative as he is very much for his family and he wants to help them and want to be with them.

Q. What made you accept the role and the serial?
A. I was always interested in doing different kind of roles with a different get up. This character has very different look from whatever I have done in the past.

I am the kind of actor who likes to change his vocabulary, style of talking and style of acting, too, to a certain extent. So I am really enjoying this serial very much. Trying different things gives me immense pleasure as an actor.

Q. How much comfortable are you playing a negative character?
A. I am very comfortable playing negative character. I believe that a good actor should be comfortable in playing any kind of role. So, I have, in my 18 years career, done lots and lots of roles.

I have done historical, romantic, angry man, CBI and nevertheless, comic roles, too. I would love to do any roles whether it is negative or positive but it should have some material in it.

I don't want to get into character jut for the sake of characterisation. I am very happy that people have always approached me with good roles.

Q. Today, most of the actors are going for production, aren't you also planning for the same?
A. Not right now, but I had my production house named Czar Production with which I made a couple of serials in the past, say about 10 to 12 years back.

I discontinued that and started working on my acting and many other things like organizing classical music concerts all over India. My father Ustad Amir Khan was awarded with Padma Bhushan.

All the good artists like Dr. Zakir Hussain, Pt. Shiv Kuman Sharma, Sultan Khan and many others have performed for and will keep performing for me in future also. I would always like to arrange for classical music concerts where I will invite my friends from the industry and outside the industry, too.

Q. What do you think about the reality shows now captivating most of TV slots?
A. Reality shows are really rocking but what I feel is that it has given platform to lots and lots of people who wouldn't have got it otherwise. But I am not a person who should support creating a controversy in all those reality shows.

Q. Can we expect you in any of the reality shows?
A. I definitely would like to be in a reality show because I myself am a very good singer as I belong to family with classical music background. I would definitely like to compete as an actor and as a singer, too.

Q. Do you agree that television soaps today have become clone to one another?
A. Yes, you know the entire pattern and technique of shooting for all the television serials are the same and it's very unfortunate. In our times, when I started doing television back in 1990, there was creativity in television.

We used to shoot like a film. That time serials were larger than life and had something new to offer and there was no camera jugglery.

But now creativity has taken a back stage in television but we cannot do anything as people are still watching shows.

Q. Any film you are doing at present?
A. I have just completed a film called Maruti Mera Dost. It's a Chandachur Sing come back film.

Q. Other projects you are working in...
A. I am doing a couple of Bhojpuri films, then hopefully, I will be doing Anil Sharma's film and apart from these television is rocking where I have done a complete different concept called Akbar-Birbal Re-mixed.

It is in a modern day setting of Akbar playing underworld bhai and Birbal being his right hand, where I am playing Akbar. It is a veto comedy with a different concept.

For a change it is going to be a revolution as it is going to be seen only on the mobile phones and computers through internet. It's produced by Rajshree Media house. - Sabir Rahman
