This is going to make an entry in the record books. 14 tracks - all re-arranged versions of late Burmanda - not a part of a remix album but featuring in a full length movie - Dil Vil Pyar Vyar directed by popular character artist Anant Mahadevan and produced by Metalight Productions. Babloo Chakraborty re-creates the music containing 14 goldies and instrumentals of two of them. 4 love stories running in parallel to each other and 14 tracks!!! Now doesn`t this remind of Mohabbatein and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun respectively!!!
DVPV has the mammoth starcast of basically newcomers (except for Namrata Shirodkar) - Madhavan, Jimmy Shergill, Sanjay Suri, Rakesh Bapat, Hrishita Bhatt, Sonali Kulkarni and Riya Sen. Madhavan had an average Bollywood debut in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Jimmy Shergill is riding high on the success of Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Sanjay Suri still needs a base after dismal show of Filhaal, Rakesh Bapat was loved and adored in the miniscule role in Tum Bin, Namrata Shirodkar hasn`t had a release for a long time, Hrishita Bhatt showed promise in Asoka, Sonali Kulkarni makes another glamorous appearance after Dil Chahta Hai and Riya Sen plays a cute doll again after Style and Kuch Dil Ne Kaha. Hoof....so many stars and so much just for the background. Let`s talk about the music now.
O Haseena Zulfowaali - now there couldn`t have been a better beginning to an album than this track.
Abhijeet and Sunidhi Chauhan do not let Mohd Rafi and Asha Bhonsle down and
Babloo Chakraborty`s zippy arrangements give that xxxxtra zing to the number. Both the singers are successful in bringing out the party mood and Jimmy Shergill and Hrishita Bhatt give a cool Y2K+2 look to the number. A 100 % crowd puller!!! Well, so the original had just Kishore Kumar. Here we have the vocals for each of the three lead players in the form of Hariharan, Babul Supriyo and Abhijeet in the timeless
`Ye Jo Mohabbat Hai`. A song which will be a sureshot HIT even today. Kumar Sanu comes up with melodious family number
`Yaadon Ki Baarat` and how one gets nostalgic. But one thing is for sure that when Kumar Sanu sings naturally, he does it better than the effort that he has put here when he is the original. A good version nevertheless.
Surprise package of the album is definitely `Mere Saamnewali Khidki Mein` which has been sung with aplomb by Shaan and given a jazzy touch. Now this has to be seen that how much justice does Rakesh Bapat do to this number originally picturised on Sunil Dutt in the original Padosan. The track has been given a very colorful touch and is targeted mainly at youth. Abhijeet renders the same number as `Barsaat Bhi Aakar Chali Gayi` and does an equally god job. Babul Supriyo and Preeta Mazumdar croon the love song `Kehna hai` whereas Babul Supriyo and Sadhna Sargam sing the lesser heard `Ab Ke Sawan Mein`. `Kehna Hai` also features as a solo by Babul Supriyo.
Both the numbers do not make much impact and are in fact a bit feeka when it comes to the comparisons with the other
goldies. Hariharan makes the best out of the opportunity given to him and sings to perfection the numbers -
Tum bin Jaon Kahan, O Hansini, Gum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein and
Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koyi. Do we really need to describe how these numbers sound like as we have been loving them since ages. But special mention should go to
`Gum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein` which has been modulated in a different manner and `O Hansini` that makes the heart go vrrrooom. Excellent !!!
Kumar Sanu again sounds like Kishoreda`s clone when he renders `Raat Kali Ek Khwaab Mein Aayi` - though still doing a good job. Kavita Krishanmoorthy sings another lesser heard number - `Kya Janoo Sajan` and the song doesn`t really gel with the mood of the album - though it may be a good inclusion in the proceedings of the movie.
Instrumentals of `O Hansini` and `O haseena Zulfowali` are the final icing on the cake and one gets content with Dil Vil Pyar Vyar. Needless to say, it is `O Haseena Zulfowaali` and the tracks by Hariharan which are the best `rendered` tracks in the entire album.Go for it !!! It is rare to see such an album with all top singers paying their tribute to legendary panchamda. A superior product when compared to the down market cover versions that keep hitting the market every hour !!!
