When debutant director Kabeer Kaushik began work on his film Sehar, there were not many who were willing to be a part of his gritty cop-thriller which was an Indianised take on Kevin Costner starrer The Untouchables.

Set in Uttar Pradesh of early/mid 90s, the film was considered as offbeat while being devoid of commercial ingredients. In fact Bobby Deol was one of the actors that Kaushik has approached to star as a lead in Sehar but Deol wasn't too convinced about appearing in a film which had a newcomer director at its helm.

After much hunting around, Arshad Warsi was roped in as a lead in the film which marked a huge departure for the actor who was mainly seen as a comic hero in each of his films released till then.

Not that the situation has changed much for Warsi between Sehar and now but the fact remains that the select few who saw the film (which unfortunately didn't do well at the box office) vouch for the fact that this was best performance ever in Warsi's career.

This is why it comes as a surprise that in Kabeer Kaushik's upcoming film Chamku, Arshad Warsi doesn't feature in the scheme of things. Instead, the man who plays the title role is, believe it or not, Bobby himself who was Kabeer's first choice once again.

Regarding his absence from the film, while Arshad Warsi does sportingly mentions that he is not a part of the film, one wonders if he would have been an asset to the cast of the film that not just includes Bobby Deol but also boasts of actors like Riteish Deshmukh, Irrfan Khan and Danny Denzongpa?

Chamku tells the story of a Naxalite (Bobby Deol), who is trained as an assassin under a covert governmental program, with a brutal past of political assassinations. He moves from southern Bihar to Mumbai, where a chance encunter entangles him in the world of crime once again.

Produced under the banner of Vijayta Films and featuring Priyanka Chopra opposite Bobby Deol, the film may boast a lot about the story or the star cast but audience is still waiting to see whether it misses the Warsi touch or not. Things will soon be proved. - Joginder Tuteja
