The controversy over actress Manisha Koirala's complaint regarding the use of body doubles in the film, Ek chhoti si love story, continues to rage with the film actress seeking the intervention of the National Commission for Women (NCW). The posters of Ek Choti Se Love Story have only added fuel to the fire. The film`s posters have been released and publicise the body exposure by showing a teenager in various poses, with different parts of a naked woman in the background.
Putting in a formal complaint with the NCW on Wednesday, Manisha Koirala asked the commission to stop the screening of the film which, she alleged, ‘‘has used a body double to depict me in an obscene and indecent manner''. Pleading her case before the full commission, Manisha told NCW chairperson Purnima Advani, ‘‘It is not only about me but the incident addresses a larger issue of dignity of women. If this can happen to me, I can understand the plight of a common woman.''
She alleged that film producer Shashilal Nair had ‘‘breached the contract''. The actress distributed a letter claiming to be from him which read, ‘‘In regard with the film, Ek choti si love story, this is to inform you, that a portion of the film has been shot with a duplicate, which involves a certain level of physical exposure. If you have any objection to any particular section, we stand to replace it with alternate shots.''
According to Manisha, ‘‘Nair has not deleted some obscene shots used on my duplicate even after my objection to them thereby portraying me in bad light.'' She said she could also move the Supreme Court on the issue.
Agreeing with Manisha that some shots as shown in the posters damaged the dignity of women, Advani said, ‘‘The commission will take up the matter under the Act on indecent representation of women and ensure that all efforts were made to stop the screening of the movie.'' She added, ‘‘We have seen the posters and advertisements. The whole commission condemns the same unanimously.'' The Bombay High Court, which had heard Manisha's petition, did not find anything objectionable and had cleared the screening of the movie.
