Famous for playing serious and strong character in super hit movies like Gangster, Woh Lamhe and Bhool Bhulaiya, Shiney Ahuja has made a mark for himself in the entertainment world today. He's all set to make
another triumph victory in his forthcoming action-thriller Hijack.
Q. This is the first time that you will be seen in an action-thriller. How have prepared yourself for it?
A. I always prepare myself mentally for any role. I only agree doing films, if I am satisfied with the script and my role in the movie.
It's like the more I think about my role the better I am able to grab my
attention towards it. I keep thinking about my role all the time and that excites me a lot. These things help me a lot and I am able to deliver a better performance every time.
Q. Apart from being nervous and excited, how much do enjoy doing the film?
A. Frankly speaking, I really had a good time shooting for this movie. The director of the movie, Kunal Shivdasani is a very good friend of mine.
He made me so comfortable on the sets that I felt I came to his
place to enjoy and not for shooting. This is one reason why I felt great and so comfortable on the sets. I really had no difficulty in shooting because of him.
Q. You are a father now, so how much did it help you in playing a father's role in the movie?
A. Frankly, it didn't affect me much because that time, that is, when the movie was being shot I was not a father.
Q. So who is the USP of the film? Is it you, Kunal or the storyline?
A. If it is so, then I will say the story and Kunal. If possible do ask this question to Kunal also (laughs).
Q. Don't you think that after doing these light-weighted roles you are opening up in respect to the viewers?
A. Yes, it's true that due to these roles I am opening up but the characters I played in Gangster, Woh Lamhe and all other films gave a distinction to me.
These roles proved useful to me as I am from a non-
filmy background and such kind of people finds it difficult to make an entry into the industry. In this industry there are no rules. You have to make your own rule in Bollywood.
Q. Why do you say like this?
A. By making your own rules I mean that one has to find his own ways. A student who has to become engineer studies engineering, some choose medical to become a doctor but opting for an acting career in very
different.
Star kids, big stars' nephews and even distributors' kids enter this industry. Even people from television are entering Bollywood. That's why there are no rules. One has to pave his own path
here.
Q. We heard something is cooking between you and Esha Deol?
A. I don't agree to that. Who says that? These are only rumors and you can confirm the same with Esha about it.
Q. How would you rate Esha as an actress?
A. Esha is a very fine and extremely talented actress. Her acting skills are yet to be enhanced. I feel she's yet to give her best.
Q. You have worked with some of the best filmmakers, Mahesh Bhatt, Sudhir Mishra, Priyadarshan to name a few. Do you find any difference between them and Kunal?
A. Each one is different from one another. In terms of direction, Anurag is different from Priyadarshan, Priyadarshan being different from Kunal. So each and every director is different and holds significance in their
direction.
Every director has some good and some bad qualities. One cannot compare them. Kunal has a very good sense of direction.
Q. Don't you have a quest for doing comedies?
A. Jahroo Baweja's Har Pal is a comedy flick that I am doing. I have noticed one thing, when I give a performance involving strong character role people tell me to smile sometimes and just the opposite happens when I
do a comedy where people ask me to be a bit serious.
Q. What do you think about stunt scenes in an action movie? Do you want to express any of the stunt scenes from Hijack?
A. I don't think that in my entire life I would perform the kind of stunt I did for this movie. The stunt scenes were scheduled for six days. So for six days I was hanging from a helicopter up side down.
The pilot
of the helicopter was an American and he told me that normally every helicopter is blessed with two engines, so if one engine goes off we have the other engine as a back up. Unfortunately this very helicopter wasn't
that very much blessed. I was informed that it had only one engine.
Also the helicopter could not land, so I will be getting only few seconds to jump off. The pilot also said that he will try his level best to keep
the helicopter 20-25 feet above the ground and that's the best he can do.
He also shared that this would not take my life but will only give a few fractures. The best part was that I completed my stunt
successfully without hurting myself.
Q. You didn't get scared while performing the act?
A. My father was an army officer. He taught me that there is nothing in this world to get scared off. He told me that if somebody else could do the stunt then why not me. My director was planning to use a body double
for the scene but I stopped him from doing so.
Q. After Gangster and Woh Lamhe, are you there in any other movies of Mahesh Bhatt?
A. I keep talking to Mahesh Bhatt but not on film matters. He believes in me and has told me that if he has any good role for me he will contact me. I too personally feel that he has been too busy in his other
projects.
Q. We heard that you are working in Sudhir Mishra's Aur Devdas and also in Nawab?
A. Even I have heard the same but that's not true. I am not doing Aur Devdas but yes if given a chance I would like to do Nawab. Sudhir is also busy in his work nowadays.
Q. Any other projects you are working on?
A. No. - Rajnee Gupta
