Being the talk of the town with his films to the link ups with all his leading ladies, Ramgopal Verma for sometimes now isn't able to entertain the viewers with his films, the way he was known for in the past.

Now in order to catch hold of his audiences Ramu once again is sticking to his favourite journo of films. Yes we are talking about ghost and spirits. This time Ramu will meet his audience with his new black magic film Phoonk.

Before that we have tried to talk to him about his films and many more.

Q. Why again back to your favourite topic?
A. These all are you peoples point of view. I have never said that it is my favourite topic. But yes I do agree that horror things attract me most but Phoonk is different from all my previous horror films.

More than horror this film is based on your belief. Black magic is being used as the main part of the film. If you want to harm someone then with black magic you can harm the person without coming in front of him.

Actually black magic is a challenge to God's power and existence.

Q. Normally black magic inspires superstition. Don't you feel somewhere or the other you are giving rise to superstition?
A. See I agree with you that believing in black magic is like giving rise to superstition. But in this film black magic is being given importance somewhere and somewhere not.

Like for example in films we use special effects to make the presence felt of the ghost which entertains you. Then you don't think that whether ghosts really exists or not and whether you are heading towards superstition.

Q. Black magic, ghost and spirits, do you believe in all these?
A. No, I don't believe in all these at all. But I can't say this with surety as I don't have any logic or experience of not believing in it.

But yes as I have a little bit knowledge of film making so I try to entertain my audiences through my films keeping those things as the centre point. I know some people who have had ghostly experiences but I have no intention or reason to prove them wrong or right.

As for example two people are watching a magic show. One of them will really believe in it and call it magic but the other will call it a mere trick though both of them have no reason for all these.

Q. It is believed that a person makes a film the way his mental state is, what you think about it?
A. You will be surprised but yes after making so many horror films I have lost faith from fear for ever. It's a fact that when there is no fear then you have no more options left to work in. Isn't it?

Q. What is the reason to keep a child in the main lead?
A. See the combination of an adult is different from that of a child. We won't be sympathetic towards an adult if some problem falls on him more than what we will have for a child.

Q. According to you what effect will this film have on children?
A. Personally I don't think there is any relation between children and horror but the effect children leaves in horror films is not that much with adult. I think the reason is their innocence.

Fear is something which does not come according to your age, background or your education but it has its own way.

Q. Were you afraid of ghost stories when you were a child?
A. (laughs) I am still afraid of it.

Q. Any special reason of keeping the title of this film as Phoonk?
A. No special reason for it. But I have taken the title from the fact that people knows about black magic as "kala jadu—jhad phoonk".

When I was talking with someone about black magic then these words were used by the person. After listening to it I really liked the word Phoonk because this one word has many different meaning.

Q. Where in one hand you are working with the Bachchans and on the other you are working with new comers. You have worked with children in most of your films, so how was it working with them?
A. See every topic has its own requirements. And at the same time when something unbelievable happens with simple family then people watch it attaching themselves to it.

In some films the characters are not so important for the audiences then the film and its story.

Q. Did it ever happen that you have to behave differently for these three kinds of people?
A. No, nothing like that happened because once you come in front of the camera an artist whether small or big becomes an artist and nothing else.

Q. Cinema or life both have different colors but why is your favorite color grey and nothing else?
A. It is not my well thought out plan. But yes more than light romantic films I am attracted more towards serious and larger than life kind of topics.

Being a director I like taking challenges. It's not that I have not made films which had beautiful colors of life. Rangeela and Mast are examples of those kinds of films.

Q. How do you feel when a film gets hit or flop?
A. Since I am in this industry for 18 years now so hit or flop doesn't effect me that much. Yes my film getting hit or flop excites the media a lot. A lot of time and decisions have to be taken before a film gets made.

So when some decisions gets wrong and when not is very difficult to say. But I don't understand one thing that how a director cannot make out after working on a film for more than a year that it is a flop film while the viewers does so in only two and half hours.

Q. From Urmila to Nisha Kothari your name is linked with every lead actress of yours, how do you take all these things?
A. (laughs) If that gives entertainment to the media then what I can do. I always go against all these but you better know that media will write whatever they want to write.

Q. Tell us something about your upcoming projects...
A. Right now I will be making a film on Veerappan. Apart from this I am working on other stories also. If I get a chance I will make Sholay once again. - Rajnee Gupta
