Her dad Dr Ashok Chopra has lately recovered from a serious illness. Priyanka couldn't miss his birthday for the world.
Says a close friend, "She drove in from Pune on Friday night to bring in her father's birthday with a quiet family dinner. After spending the day with her dad she drove back to Pune to join Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid for the shooting of Kaminay."
As for the accident, Priyanka thought she was in –charge on the scooter's driver's seat, what with having done a scooter ad and driven the two-wheeler around many bends.
How was Priyanka to know she would skid and fall from a scooter and take her co-star Shahid down with her?
"It was nothing, yaar," she brushes off the mishap. "I was riding a scooter with Shahid We slipped and fell because the road was muddy. I'm a little battered and bruised. But by God's grace we're both fine. I think my ego is a little more bruised than me.
"Priyanka is more bothered about mastering her Marathi for the film. She thought it would be child's play. But she's been having a harrowing time learning the language for her character.
"I play a Marathi girl for the first time in Kaminay. I had a Marathi tutor, a stage actress named Aarti, coming to my sets of Dostana and Fashion to teach me. But I never knew it would be so difficult. I've barely managed to pick up enough Marathi to look convincing in Kaminay. But I don't think I'll ever be able to speak enough to do a Marathi film," sighs Priyanka.
She has never been much of a linguist. "I did study Spanish in school. But I've forgotten every word."
